KFC Adding Pizza To Its Menu In The Most Bizarre Way
There are plenty of fast-food pizza restaurants where you can get a decent slice in a pinch. Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Papa John’s all have a fairly decent chokehold on the chain pizza game. But starting on February 26, KFC will enter the arena when it debuts be its fried chicken and pizza hybrid that the chain is dubbing the “Chizza.”
The Chizza
The Chizza will be available for a limited time at KFC restaurants nationwide. Those who order this interesting pizza experiment will get two Extra Crispy white meat fried chicken filets topped with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni.
So, really KFC’s version of pizza is just chicken dressed up with pizza ingredients, rather than dough with some fried chicken toppings. If you’re in the mood for a pizza, this might not be your ideal choice, but it should certainly hit the spot if you can’t decide between a pizza night or a fried chicken night. This will also be the first time that the chicken chain has made the Chizza available for US consumers.
Our Chizza Is Not The First Chizza
Interestingly, the KFC pizza was released in other parts of the world before now. The mashup first made an appearance in the Philippines in 2015 before making its way to restaurants in Korea, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Germany, Spain, and Mexico. Now US citizens can get their first taste of the Chizza almost a decade after its debut.
The Double Down
Fans of KFC will note that the KFC pizza is fairly similar to the Double Down sandwich, which also utilizes two pieces of fried chicken in place of bread. The Double Down also had melted cheese but had spicy sauce, mayo, and bacon instead of the marinara and pepperoni that the Chizza will be utilizing. The Double Down is currently out of the restaurant’s lineup, so the Chizza seems like the next best thing for fans who miss the chicken-bun sandwich.
Blackberry Lemonade
While KFC isn’t bringing back the Double Down alongside the KFC pizza, the chain will be bringing back its Blackberry Lemonade. So, there will at least be something refreshing to wash down the heavily-fried Chizza. It certainly seems like the Chizza won’t be the healthiest option on the menu, but KFC also isn’t most people’s first stop for a healthy meal anyway.
If You’re In The Big Apple, You Can Try The Chizza Early
Most people will need to wait until February 26 to grab a KFC pizza, but New York City chicken connoisseurs have the chance to try it earlier. KFC is opening up a “Chizzeria” pop-up at 242 E 14th St for a limited time. The Chizzeria is open on February 23 and 24, and fans who line up will get a free Chizza, limit one per customer.
The KFC pizza is certainly one of the most interesting fast food innovations the chicken chain has come up with. It remains to be seen if this creative take on pizza can live up to the Double Down. Will you be trying the KFC Chizza when it hits stores on February 26?
