Everyone who is anyone knows who Johnny Depp is. Captain Jack Sparrow? 21 Jump Street? Amber Heard? Chances are, you have probably heard of his daughter as well, Lilly-Rose Depp, a model and actress. There is also a good chance you’ve heard of Johnny’s ex, the mother of Lilly-Rose, Vanessa Paradis, who has found success modeling, singing, and acting. But did you know that Johnny also has a son? Jack Depp could be following in his famous father’s footsteps.
Who Is Jack Depp?
Jack Depp is the son of actor Johnny Depp and model Vanessa Paradis. The couple has two other children, Jack’s sisters, Lily-Rose Depp, and Melody Depp. He is American and French, currently living in France following his parent’s separation.
Johnny Christopher Depp III (aka “Jack” Depp) was born on April 9, 2002, in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France. It is located west of Paris and is considered to be the wealthiest and most expensive area in Paris. With parents like A-listers (at the time) Johnny Depp and model/singer/actress Vanessa Paradis, one can see how easily it was for them to afford a place in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
As a child, Jack Depp, along with his sister Lilly-Rose, were kept far from the prying eyes of the camera lens. Both Johnny and Vanessa did their best to raise Jack away from the spotlight and, for the most part, in France. In a 2007 interview with Weekend Knack, Vanessa explained her thoughts on raising her children away from the bright lights.
“Look, now I indeed keep them away from the cameras, because I don’t want our children to be forced to share in our fame against their will. They didn’t ask for that. Not yet. The day that they will decide for themselves to do things that might bring them into the spotlights, then I won’t stop them.”
Vanessa also did speak about the choice to live in France as opposed to America, though at the time, she and the kids were spending a bit of time in Los Angeles based on Johnny Depp’s filming schedules.
“For my children I secretly choose France,” she said to Weekend Knack via PEOPLE. “Even though Los Angeles is great too. We raise them bilingually anyway, so for them it doesn’t really matter. Only, in the south of France you can live much more anonymously. And that’s a bliss, especially when the children are still young.”
Johnny and Vanessa split in 2012 when Jack Depp was only 10 years old. Vanessa kept the children in France, where they both grew up. Although Johnny spent much of his time in America, his relationship with Jack never wavered.
Jack’s Father Is Johnny Depp
Jack Depp’s father is one of the most famous on the planet. He made his feature film debut way back in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street and while his role wasn’t massive, it did kickstart a career that has lasted nearly 40 years.
Depp would eventually be involved in films like Edward Scissorhands, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Donnie Brasco, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sleepy Hollow, Blow, and From Hell before he tore the roof off of Disney.
In 2003, Disney made the smart (they actually were smart back in the day) decision to produce a film based on one of their most popular rides. The result was Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which starred Depp as one of the most famous characters ever created, Captain Jack Sparrow. Jack Depp’s father would go on to play Captain Jack four more times, bringing in a pirate’s haul of over $4.5 billion at the box office.
Jack Depp’s dad would become THE A-lister with other films like Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, The Rum Diary, Dark Shadows, The Lone Ranger, Murder on the Orient Express, and the first two films in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
But Jack Depp’s father would eventually find himself in a lot of hot water that was called Amber Heard. Their relationship was tumultuous at best and led to one of the most famous divorce trials Hollywood has seen. Johnny Depp’s name was tarnished, as was Heard’s, but according to Depp, he pressed forward with the trial all for his children.
“Since I knew that there was no truth to it whatsoever, I felt it my responsibility to stand up, not only for myself in that instance, but stand up for my children,” Depp said. “I wanted to clear my children of this horrid thing they were having to read about their father, which was untrue.”
It is apparent the love he has for his children. For Jack, it is emblemized by a tattoo on Johnny’s lower right arm. The tattoo is of a sparrow flying over the ocean and in the background is the sun. Underneath all of this is Jack’s name.
Jack Depp Mostly Grew Up With His Mother, Vanessa Paradis
Jack Depp’s mom is famous in her own right. She was born in France and is a singer, model, and actress. Vanessa Paradis first met Jack’s father back in 1998 when she was with a group of friends at a bar in the Costes Hotel in Paris. Johnny was there having dinner and asked to meet her. They ended up talking for hours and the rest, as they say, was history.
Vanessa and Johnny remained together for 14 years, never married, and finally calling it quits in 2012. Of their split, Vanessa said at the time, “I could make an endless list of all the things I admire about him,” she said.
“We understand that, if we want our relationship to continue, we must give each other space, allow each other to go off on our own and trust each other. Not everyone is lucky enough to be given space and trust.”
His Sister Is Lily-Rose Depp
Although Jack Depp has remained close to both his father and mother, his true bond is with his sister, Lily-Rose. Separated by only three years, Lily-Rose being the elder, the two bonded early, and to date, that bond has not been broken.
When they were growing up and going to school in America, they shared a secret language. “When my brother and I were at the same school, whenever we wanted to say something that was going to stay just between us, we could say it in French and nobody would understand,” she told actress Keira Knightley in an interview done for Interview magazine.
Jack Depp is fluent in French as he spends time there with his mother. Today, though, it is said young Depp is living in a home in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, California.
What Does Jack Depp Do For A Living?
Now 21, Jack Depp is the creative sort. While he hasn’t yet followed in his father and mother’s footsteps as an actor, according to his father, he is a pretty good musician. Not only that, but he also knows his way around a drawing pad as well. “He draws really super well. He also plays music very well. He’s got a good feel for that,” said his proud papa.
Back when Jack Depp was 16 years old, he suffered a major health scare. Though it was never revealed exactly what the issue was, it was enough to cause major concern for his parents and one that caused Vanessa to miss the premiere of her film, A Knife in the Heart. Thankfully, Jack regained his health.
Back to the music, everyone knows that Johnny Depp is an accomplished musician, as is his ex-Vanessa. Johnny fronts his own band, Hollywood Vampires, a supergroup that includes Alice Cooper and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry. So, when Jack Depp created his own musical group, his father couldn’t have been any prouder. Johnny was even proud of the group’s name, Clown Boner.
“We don’t need a paternity test,” Depp told Rolling Stone at the time. “That’s my kid.”
Jack Depp Lives a Quiet Life
Believe it or not, Jack Depp lives a very quiet life. With famous parents like Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis as well as a famous sister in Lily-Rose Depp, one would think young Jack would also be searching for the spotlight, but that is definitely not the case.
Jack Depp does not entertain social media, so no Instagram account for him. In fact, neither of his parents post pictures of him and the only one his sister has posted of him is when she wished him a happy 18th birthday. Other than that, Jack remains out of the spotlight, only to be thrust into it when the paparazzi focus on him.
He Was Dating French Model/Singer Camille Jansen
As far as romantic entanglements go for Jack Depp, he is currently single. Prior to this, he was in one relationship that caught headlines. It was with French model and singer Camille Jansen. Camille is well known in the fashion industry as she has done photoshoots across the globe including the Island of Capri. She has also worked with designers like the Giorgio Armani brand.
While Camille is no stranger to the camera, she respected the fact that Jack Depp preferred to keep himself away from it. When they were dating, she was able to convince him to let her post a happy birthday picture of the two of them relaxing on a couch.
