Johnny Depp fans rejoice, because the actor is making his big return at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF). The Pirates of the Caribbean actor will star in a new trailer that will honor Russell Crowe as he receives the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema, according to Deadline. The elaborate production will highlight Russell Crowe’s incredible acting career and the subsequent awards he has received throughout his lifetime.

The 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival will take place from June 30 to July 8 in Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. Johnny Depp’s trailer will premiere during the opening ceremony on Friday, June 30. Russell Crowe will also take the stage during the opening night to perform with his longtime pop-rock band Indoor Garden Party.

The trailer will honor Russell Crowe for his many achievements, including his Academy Award-winning performances and honorable nominations. In 2000, he won an Oscar for Best Actor for his outstanding role as Maximus Decimus Meridius in Ridley Scott’s film Gladiator. The New Zealand actor also won a Golden Globe and a Best Actor BAFTA award for his portrayal of the schizophrenic mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. in the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind.

Russell Crowe has gone on to perform many more great roles in diverse films, including American Gangster, Cinderella Man, Robin Hood, and Les Misérables. Most recently, he portrayed Father Gabriel Amorth in the horror film The Pope’s Exorcist which has received mixed reviews from audiences.

Johnny Depp, who has been laying low since his trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, is coming back big for this trailer. His last appearance at KVIFF was in 2021 when he was getting a lot of heat over the allegations of abuse from his ex-wife. During that appearance, he presented two films — Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan and Minamata, both of which he produced.

The Sweeney Todd actor is going to be the eighteenth person to star in a KVIFF trailer that was specifically made for the festival. Other actors who have appeared in trailers include Mel Gibson, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Danny DeVito, who all delivered dramatic and entertaining trailers.

The trailer featuring Johnny Depp will be directed by Ivan Zachariáš. The director, cinematographer, and writer is known for his work on the TV mini-series The Sleepers, The White Russian, and the upcoming film The End of the World. This will mark the first collaboration between Johnny Depp and Ivan Zachariáš.

For those who have missed Johnny Depp on the big screen, they can see him in his upcoming role as Louis XV in the biographical drama Jeanne du Barry, which will be released on May 16, 2023. The film will focus on Jeanne Bécu, the illegitimate daughter of a seamstress who surprised everyone by becoming Louis XV’s last official mistress in 1743. The movie was written and directed by the talented Maïwenn, who also stars as the beautiful French lead, Jeanne du Barry.
