For years, fans have been begging to see Johnny Depp return as the lovable lush Captain Jack Sparrow from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean again, and today their wish has come true. Jack Sparrow’s appearance doesn’t come in the rumored Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but he appeared in a video recorded for the charitable Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The video was sent to an 11-year-old fan of Captain Jack Sparrow by Johnny Depp himself, who stepped back into the role flawlessly. In the two-minute and twenty-second clip, he fumbles over his words as he seemingly struggles to grasp how to use modern technology while delivering a rambling but hilarious message in which he promises to follow the young boy, Kori (whom he refers to as “Captain Kori”) on his YouTube channel and have his friends do so, as well.

Captain Kori may only be 11 years old, but he has already been through several heart transplants and has spent time in palliative care for those with extremely grave conditions. The boy shared the video on his own YouTube channel, which has close to 200,000 followers – a number that will surely go up even higher thanks to Johnny Depp.

This Jack Sparrow sighting comes as a big surprise to many Johnny Depp fans, but a welcome one. After his recent divorce and the dramatic, televised defamation trial between him and his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp had seemingly been “canceled” by Hollywood. He was removed from multiple high-profile roles, such as his role in Pirates of the Caribbean and the Fantastic Beasts films and could not find any work for a time.

With his reputation seemingly ruined, it was a dark time for Pirates fans. They feared that there would be no more new Jack Sparrow appearances ever because even if Disney did ask Johnny Depp to come back, he most likely would have turned down the offer on principle. According to ScreenRant, the actor said during his trial that he would have turned down $300 million “and a million alpacas” to return to the franchise because he felt they had turned their back on him without giving him a chance to prove his innocence.

After the trial, though, Johnny Depp’s name was legally cleared, and he has been able to start slowly but surely making his way back into the movie business again with small roles. His return to big films like Pirates of the Caribbean seems like it could be years away (if it ever happens), but at least we got to get this glimpse of our old pirate pal in the meantime.

Johnny Depp has often donned the Jack Sparrow getup for charities like Make-A-Wish, and his willingness to do so now, even after all the turmoil in his now-public personal life, is just one of the reasons he continues to have so many devoted fans. His video message meant a lot to Kori and means just as much to others in a similar condition around the world who would love to see Jack Sparrow on the big screen again in the future.
