Star Wars Invades The Art Of Thomas Kinkade

If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my years spent writing about pop culture, it’s this: if you can name a thing, somebody has mashed that thing up with Star Trek and/or Star Wars. It’s like the annual tradition down at the state fair, where each new calendar year means another chance to figure out some food item that has not yet been deep-fat fried. Thankfully, we happen to like Star Trek and Star Wars here at GFR, so even if such an experiment doesn’t work very well, we’ll probably give the attempt a respectful head nod. These images don’t need any restraint on our part, because they’re a rousing success.
The “War on Kinkade” images created by artist Jeff Bennett operates from a simple presence: take the idyllic landscapes painted by artist Thomas Kinkade, and then unleash the full might of the Imperial military on them.
Now I’m not saying Kinkade’s original works are without merit. They’re not really my bag, but then my artistic tastes tend to skew more toward Mad fold-ins. Although a quick bit of research reveals that Kinkade actually trademarked the phrase “Thomas Kinkade, Painter of Light,” and that kind of makes me want to punch him. But hey, it’s cool, live and let live, am I right? Now then, let’s get back to watching the Empire lay the smack down on this dude’s bucolic wonderland.
If I have any criticisms, it’s that only one of the pictures actually has those fairy-tale houses on fire.
Here’s something to keep in mind for the future: guard Rancors are more effective than guard dogs. Just keep the big guy clear of that picket fence, his kind doesn’t do well with pointy things.
Sadly, Bennett doesn’t seem to have prints of these up for sale at the moment, but I’m sure if you go to his page and post comments in all caps demanding that he sell them to you he’ll make it happen. (Don’t really do that, you savages.)
