If you’ve never seen Russell Crowe’s 2016 R-rated action comedy The Nice Guys, you can stream it on Netflix now. The movie stars Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling as mismatched private eye partners looking for a missing young woman (played by Margaret Qualley). It all takes place in Los Angeles in the peak 1970s, so it’s filled with thick mustaches, wide collars, and countless jokes.

The film was directed by Shane Black who is known for his comedic action work on Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Predator (plus a little movie called Lethal Weapon). Having taken a few years off from directing, Shane Black will make his return with two upcoming projects: Play Dirty and Doc Savage. He will also be lending a writing hand to Lethal Weapon 5, though the details of the new film are being kept under wraps.

When The Nice Guys was released back in 2016, it wasn’t a smash hit. That’s mostly because it was released on the same weekend as Neighbors 2, which drew a lot of attention from the target audience. The Nice Guys did manage to gross $62.8 million worldwide against their $50 million production budget.

The film itself and actor Russell Crowe were nominated for many awards from the Critics Choice Awards, Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and AARP Annual Movies for Grownups Awards. Ultimately, Ryan Gosling won Best Comedic Performance from the San Diego Film Critics Society.

Since its release, audiences have shared their love for The Nice Guys, touting it as a wacky and hilarious buddy cop movie. Fans can’t get enough of the top-notch dialogue written by Shane Black and the natural chemistry between Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling that has audiences keeling over with laughter. After such an unpredictably fun movie, fans are eager for Shane Black to bring us The Nice Guys 2.

A sequel to The Nice Guys has been confirmed and is currently in development, though we don’t have a release date or plot details just yet. We do know that Shane Black will be returning to direct the film and that Ryan Gosling is set to star in it once again.

However, Russell Crowe has not confirmed whether or not he will also reprise his role as Jackson Healy. After being left out of Gladiator 2, we’re hopeful that the Oscar-winner will join the cast of The Nice Guys 2 since the sequel just won’t be the same without him.

Recently, Russell Crowe starred in The Pope’s Exorcist which has not been doing very well according to IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. The New Zealand actor has several other projects on his plate, including Land of Bad, The Beast in Me, and The Georgetown Project, which will hopefully make up for the horror movie flop.

This June, Russell Crowe will be honored with the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema from the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF). He and his band, Indoor Garden Party, will perform at the opening ceremony after an exclusive trailer featuring Johnny Depp is shared.
