Vincent D’Onofrio Has The Best Response To New Daredevil Series Announcement
Vincent D'Onofrio had a great response to the new Daredevil series that's soon coming to Disney+ and his role in it
Marvel had a pretty big weekend at Comic-Con this past go around, announcing some new projects, updating fans on those already in the queue, and laying out a timeline for what’s to come with this franchise. Always one of the bigger headlines in terms of presenters, this time didn’t disappoint and we started to get more clarity on where certain series and characters were going in the future. One of those was Daredevil and what to expect out of the character. Vincent D’Onofrio was quick to chime in on the announcement for the coming series and he had the perfect response, totally in character for his Wilson Fisk/ Kingpin.
Though he wasn’t responding to anyone in particular, it didn’t take much to figure out what Vincent D’Onofrio was tweeting about this weekend. Fans of the original Netflix Daredevil series know that the actor took his role as Fisk very seriously and when that group of characters made its way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most hoped that D’Onofrio would be one of the ones making the journey to this new franchise. In terms of understanding the assignment, the actor clearly gets it and made as much clear with his Tweets (via Movie Web) over the weekend. Check it out:
Fans of Daredevil will know that the “When I was a boy” line refers to an admission by his Kingpin character about something he’d done, pretty brutally, to a family member when he was younger. It was a disturbing line though completely in character for what we’d seen Vincent D’Onofrio bring on the small screen as Fisk. He’s certainly been able to embody the gestalt behind the crime lord/ supervillain and it was just one of the reasons fans wanted to see him back. And the second tweet is a reference to Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock seeing as how the two will definitely face off in this upcoming series.
The new show will be Daredevil: Born Again and it looks like they are going to adapt the Frank Miller take on the character which came out a few decades ago. At the core of that story was that Kingpin is able to learn the identity of Daredevil, knowing that it’s Murdock. From there he begins to dismantle the character before Murdock finally has to lose everything in order to fully embody the Daredevil moniker. Again, Vincent D’Onofrio seems to get it here and this is shaping up to be a very cool series.
Of course, we have already seen Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The former took part in Hawkeye, establishing the baseline for the upcoming story in Echo. That will follow the titular character and could pick up right after the events of Hawkeye that saw her confront Fisk, her adoptive father. And we saw Charlie Cox when he made a cameo just as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though he was helping Peter with his possible criminal case, he did let on about his powers by catching a brick through the window.
Next up, we should see Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox face off in Daredevil: Born Again.
