When Daniel Radcliffe does interviews to promote any of his other projects, the conversation naturally drifts around to Harry Potter. Thankfully, though many would assume this would grow tiresome for the actor after all these years, Radcliffe has been kind about going along and even seeming enthusiastic as interviewers continue to question him for insights on the famous franchise. Though he seems very accepting about still having to talk about it, would he ever really return to the Wizarding World? On a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he was asked about the possibility of a reboot and return to the franchise. While many may have expected him to discuss playing an adult Harry Potter, he surprised many by naming two other characters he would be interested in playing: Sirius Black or Remus Lupin.

Sirus Black was played by Gary Oldman in the original films. He was a friend of Harry Potter’s parents and a mentor for Daniel Radcliffe’s character. Remus Lupin played a similar role, but was also briefly a professor at Hogwarts (and a werewolf). Remus Lupin was played by David Thewlis in the original films. As for why Daniel Radcliffe is interested in these two parts, the Harry Potter actor explained:

Those were always the two characters that I was like ‘They’re great.’ And also like, I’m obviously biased by my experience of filming those scenes, with those people, and they’re like some of my favorite memories

Since both of these characters were part of The Marauders, this will naturally lead fans to question why in the world Warner Bros isn’t making a Marauders project. The Mauraders were a group of friends that James Potter, Harry Potter’s father, was a member of, similar to the way that Harry had the Golden Trio with Ron and Hermione. The group was made of four Gryffindors, including Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, and James Potter. While the idea of Daniel Radcliffe starring as Sirius Black or Remus Lupin in a Marauders prequel would be something a lot of fans would be interested in, they’d also probably question whether audiences or Warner Bros themselves would find that too confusing, since Radcliffe is so strongly associated with the character he’s become so famous for.

Still, nothing is impossible in the Wizard World. HBO Max is working on bringing new Harry Potter stories to their streaming service, though we still aren’t sure what those projects will be. Perhaps one of them will become a Marauders story. This is something that much fanfiction has been written about and the original stories hinted at a lot. Perhaps the studio will be willing to consider the idea of bringing Daniel Radcliffe on board, especially if they recognize how many fans would be curious to see it happen. While Daniel Radcliffe’s comments on the podcast sounded like nothing more than speculation and an idea he has played around with, that’s often how creative projects end up becoming reality. Since the actor himself doesn’t rule out a return to the Wizarding World, it seems the door will remain open for future possibilities.
