10Back in March we first reported on a pair of upcoming Doctor Who comic series slated to debut this summer. They’ll be the first Who projects coming out of the franchise’s new comic-book home at Titan Comics (IDW Publishing previously held the Who license for years). The good news for those who are still missing David Tennant and/or Matt Smith’s versions of the Doctor should be pleased, as both the Tenth and Eleventh incarnations of the Doctor will be getting ongoing series exploring previously untold adventures. Now we’ve got a bit more info about the two series, including details about the new companions who will be moving into the TARDIS.

The Tenth Doctor series is being written by Eisner Award winner Nick Abadzis (Laika), with art from Elena Casagrande (Angel, Star Trek). The Tenth Doctor’s series will pick up after the end of the fourth season, when the Doctor is traveling alone after Donna’s tragic fate in “Journey’s End.” He was alone once again when we saw him in the 2008 standalone special The Next Doctor, but the new comic series will explore what happened between those two stories. Here’s the official synopsis from Titan:

Gabriella Gonzalez is stuck in a dead-end job in her family’s New York Laundromat, dreaming of college and bigger, better and brighter things.

So when a strange man with an even stranger big blue box barges into her life on the eve of the Day of the Dead celebrations — talking about an infestation of psychic aliens — she seizes her chance for adventure with both hands.

After Donna’s tragic exit, the Doctor thought he was done with new companions. But Gabby Gonzalez is going to prove him wrong… if she survives the night!

11The Eleventh Doctor’s new comic series will also be targeting a time when the Doctor was traveling alone, in this case during the period after the fifth season finale “The Big Bang,” but before the Doctor summoned his friends and companions to Utah in the beginning of season five. Once again, he’ll wind up recruiting a new companion whether he wants to or not. The Eleventh Doctor’s series will be written by Al Ewing and Rob Williams (Judge Dredd), with art by Simon Fraser (Grindhouse, Doctor Who). Here’s the synopsis:

Alice Obiefune has just lost her mother when the Doctor explodes into her life.

But what does this grieving young woman have to do with the career of a 70s musician, an amnesiac alien, and a terrifying cosmic threat?

In the wake of the second Big Bang, find out what the Doctor gets up to when Amy and Rory aren’t around!

Both the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor comic series will be available on July 23 from Titan Press.
