By this point you probably know that we’re only a few days away from the return of AMC’s zombie drama, The Walking Dead. The show has been on a mid-season break since early December. On the off chance that you’ve forgotten about this seemingly momentous event, the best billboard ever is here to remind you not to make other plans Sunday night.

This wonderful bit of marketing appeared a few days ago, installed in Toronto’s Union Station. The billboard originally began life with all ten fingers, but one is lopped off each day as we get closer to Sunday, February 10th, and the episode “The Suicide King.”

Am I the only one that thinks this is a brilliant promotional strategy? It’s funny, morbid, noticeable, functional, and, most importantly, has people talking about your product. Even better is the fact that they leave the severed fingers scattered around. Sometime during the week there will also be a collection of undead walkers tethered to the billboard to drive home the gruesome effect.

How often do you think they have to stop people from walking off with the detached digits? My guess would be every couple of minutes. If I were in Canada you can bet I’d at least make an attempt. Don’t know what the hell I would do with a giant disembodied thumb, but I’d sure like to find out. If you happen to be in town, you can apparently take a picture of yourself in front of the billboard, and tweet it with the hashtag #twdfeb10 for a chance to win one for your very own.
