Think Any Studio Execs Called E.T. A Little Brown Turd?

Steven Spielberg’s 1982 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial is one of the most beloved family films of all time. Almost universally adored, you’d be hard pressed to find many people with a negative thing to say about the movie. That is unless you take into account the words of the fictitious movie executives in this new viral video that imagines a production meeting between studio honchos and Spielberg. They just have one little suggestion about the end.
You always hear stories of great movies that were passed over time and time again, and wonder why the hell anyone would pass on the chance to make that film. Maybe some of the meetings for E.T. went a little like this.
The first time the woman (Kelly Hudson) calls E.T. a “terrible little brown turd,” I almost spit a mouthful of coffee on my computer screen. It’s going to be hard to watch E.T. from now on and not imagine him as “a really cool dude” who drinks beer, eats candy all the time, and wears a backwards baseball hat.
Admittedly, this video goes on a little bit too long. It hits a satiric peak, then peters out with lazy jokes. Still, the basic conceit is sound, and the finished product delivers some great lines.
