Sony Reveals Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Console Alongside A Spectacular New Trailer

By Jason Collins | Updated

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games have revealed yet another astonishing trailer for their highly-anticipated Spider-Man 2 at the San Diego Comic-Con. Fortunately, and much to the fandom’s excitement, the reveal of a new trailer was followed by the announcement of the Spider-Man 2 special-edition PlayStation 5 console and controller.

We’ll start with the more important part of the announcement, which is clearly aimed at boosting console sales for those gamers who still haven’t switched to the PlayStation 5 console.

Spider-Man Designed Consoles

According to VCG, the preorders for the special edition consoles, which sport a new striking design inspired by the upcoming game and its Symbiote, will begin on July 28. The whole package entails a red-and-black PlayStation 5 console with a Spider logo on the side, as well as the specially designed Spider-Man 2 DualSense controller.

Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 bundle

This thrilling bundle looks absolutely fantastic as it captures the look and feel of Spider-Man 2 with the iconic red being covered by the threatening black, reflecting both the adversarial and symbiotic relationship both the friendly-neighborhood-Spider-Man and the alien Symbiote have shared in both comic books and live-action media.

While we remain true to our statement that the Xbox 360 controller is the best gaming controller ever made, the special-edition wireless DualSense controller really looks fantastic with a nearly all-black symbiote design.

Preorders for a special edition Spider-Man 2 console and game bundle go live on June 28.

According to Sony, the PlayStation 5 × Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Bundle includes the aforementioned console and DualSense wireless controller, but also a voucher for a digital copy of Marvel‘s Spider-Man 2 Standard Edition.

This is great, in all fairness, but it would be nice if Sony thought of adding physical copies of the game for a few extra bucks. So, where does that leave current PlayStation 5 owners who want their own Spider-Man 2 consoles? Buying yet another one just for the sake of its design is possible but not really financially viable.

Console Covers

Fortunately, Sony thought of that too, and the company launched PlayStation 5 × Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition Console covers for both the Digital and Standard edition of the console. Additionally, Sony also launched a DualSense wireless controller × Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition controller (not a skin) to complement your new console covers—so the company finally capitalized on the third-party invention.

Regardless, if you’re interested in buying any of the aforementioned products, please note that quantities are limited.

Furthermore, players who buy the PlayStation 5 × Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition bundle with a voucher for the game will get the same preorder incentives as those who preordered the game alone—several different color variants for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, as well as additional three skill points to spend within the game.

Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to drop on October 20 this year; the narrative features two fan-favorite villains, and gamers will be able to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales—something we previously speculated about.

Spider-Man 2 will release as a PlayStation 5 exclusive title, and it’s still unknown whether or when it will arrive on other platforms as well.
