In an exciting development for fans of the iconic sitcom The Office, showrunner Greg Daniels is partnering with Michael Koman, co-creator of Nathan for You, to potentially bring a fresh installment to the beloved franchise. Daniels and Koman will helm the creation of this new series, which is planned to be a spin-off in the Dunder Mifflin universe and not a The Office reboot. The series remains in the development phase at Universal Television and has not yet been officially greenlit.

Since the project is still in the early stages of development, not much is known about what Daniels and Koman have planned. While it’s not a The Office reboot, we can speculate that it will feel very familiar to the classic office-centric comedy. Set in a different workplace with an all-new cast of characters, the series aims to capture the essence of its predecessor while carving out its own unique identity.

Committed to expanding the legacy of The Office, which concluded in 2013 and has had no reboots since its finale 11 years ago, Daniels initiated the project by establishing a development room earlier this year. The original series (based on the British comedy of the same name) achieved widespread acclaim for its witty humor and memorable ensemble cast. Transporting viewers to the fictional Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin paper company, the series featured an array of unforgettable characters portrayed by stars like Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, and Mindy Kaling.

Michael Koman

Alongside original showrunner Daniels, Koman is an excellent choice as a partner to bring The Office back to life, in reboot, spin-off, or any other form. With a wealth of experience in crafting boundary-pushing television to the table, Koman is best known for co-creating Nathan for You alongside Nathan Fielder, as well as working on acclaimed shows like Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report, and Tina Fey’s sitcom Girls5Eva. Koman has demonstrated a talent for blending fiction with reality, a skill that could lend a fresh perspective to the new The Office series.

Office Ladies

In addition to The Office spin-off series, the acclaimed comedy may also receive a reboot in another form. During a recent episode of the Office Ladies podcast, hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who played Pam and Angela in the sitcom, expressed interest in appearing in a movie adaptation of the beloved series. Fischer insisted that the involvement of original showrunner Greg Daniels would be crucial for her to consider returning, while Kinsey saw reprising her role as an opportunity to share the experience with her children.

Better Than Nothing

Despite the enthusiasm of Fischer and Kinsey, the likelihood of a full-scale The Office reboot seems slim. On the one hand, Daniels will likely be pretty busy with the development of the spin-off, eliminating any chance of Fischer’s requirement for him to return for a reboot. However, it’s possible that both actresses could appear as guest stars in the new series Daniels and Koman are creating.

While it’s not the The Office reboot Fischer, Kinsey, and many fans have been hoping for, the collaboration between Daniels and Koman promises to deliver a fresh take on the beloved sitcom format.
