Suicide Squad Isekai Anime Joker Is The Cruelest Version Yet

By Douglas Helm | Published

The latest trailer for the Suicide Squad Isekai anime spotlights the Joker, and it’s looking like this may be the most cruel and twisted version of the Joker yet. The clip revisits some familiar story beats detailing how the Joker and Harley Quinn fell in “love,” including a disturbing clip where the Joker chokes Harley and holds her over a vat of acid. Of course, it helps that the animation makes Joker look especially terrifying, with a lot of shots giving him a glowing smile and eyes.

This clip is yet another reason for DC fans to be excited about the Suicide Squad Isekai anime. It seems like it’ll be one of the freshest takes we’ve had on the DC universe in a while, and it doesn’t hurt that Wit Studio, best known for Spy x Family, Attack on Titan, Rankings of Kings, and Vinland Saga, is providing the animation. Wit Studio has a near-impeccable track record, and it looks like Suicide Squad Isekai won’t be breaking that record based on the incredible animation we’ve seen from the series so far.

The Suicide Squad Isekai anime won’t be your average Suicide Squad tale (as the name implies), as the Suicide Squad ends up transported to a world of magic and monsters.

The Suicide Squad Isekai anime is presented by Warner Bros Japan and directed by Eri Osada, with a screenplay co-written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara. Naota Hosoda handled the character design from a draft by manga artist Akira Amano. Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the music for the series.

The Joker and Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad Isekai

The Suicide Squad Isekai anime won’t be your average Suicide Squad tale (as the name implies), as the Suicide Squad ends up transported to a world of magic and monsters. To make matters worse, they only have 72 hours to get back to their world before the bombs in their heads go off. A lot of familiar DC characters will be getting the anime treatment along with Joker and Harley Quinn, including fan favorites like Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, King Shark, Rick Flag, Amanda Waller, and Katana.

Of course, any series that has the Joker with a prominent role is going to showcase the massively popular character, and it seems like the Suicide Squad Isekai anime has nailed it. Yuichiro Umehara, best known for Goblin Slayer, plays Joker in the series, and based on the clips we’ve heard, it sounds like he’s done a fantastic job.

Although Wit Studio and Warner Bros Japan haven’t announced anything about it yet, it seems likely that the Suicide Squad Isekai anime will eventually get a dubbed version.

The rest of the voice cast is rounded out by Anna Nagase, Reigo Yamaguchi, Takehito Koyasu, Jun Fukuyama, Subaru Kimura, Taku Yashiro, Kujira, Chika Anazai, Reina Ueda, Mamiko Noto, and Jun Fukushima.

Although Wit Studio and Warner Bros Japan haven’t announced anything about it yet, it seems likely that the Suicide Squad Isekai anime will eventually get a dubbed version. While many anime fans prefer the original subs to the dubbed versions of their favorite anime, it would be a missed opportunity if Suicide Squad Isekai didn’t have some fun with the casting.

Dubbed version or not, the Suicide Squad Isekai anime is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated anime of the year.

For instance, getting Mark Hamill as Joker, John Cena as Peacemaker, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and either Margot Robbie or Tara Strong as Harley Quinn would be a good way to ensure the dubbed was just as hyped as the subbed version.
