The Star Wars film, which was supposed to see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey, might not be as far as we thought into pre-production because the script has yet to be written. According to insiders, Peaky Blinders filmmaker Steven Knight just hasn’t got around to working on it. However, that doesn’t mean that the movie is going to be scrapped.

Knight is currently finishing up the screenplay for his Peaky Blinders film, which begins production later this year. The Star Wars Rey-centric feature has successfully dodged being axed during a previous round of cancellations. The movie also underwent development restructuring when writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Brit-Gibson exited the project.

After their departure, the studio hired Knight to take over the writing duties. The Star Wars Rey Skywalker movie was believed to be the next installment in the franchise. However, Jon Favreau’s Star Wars project, featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, has leaped ahead in the release schedule and is slated to begin filming this year.

Interestingly, delays in the production of the Star Wars Rey movie were initially raised in November 2023 when Daisy Ridley said she had not yet seen a script. However, the actress was still excited about the project as she was aware of the overall plot.

“I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”The upcoming Star Wars Rey movie, led by Daisy Ridley, is under the direction of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who previously worked on the superhero series Ms. Marvel. The story is said to focus on Rey as she tries to rebuild the Jedi Order. There have also been rumors about other familiar characters appearing in the highly anticipated film.

Daisy Ridley first graced the Star Wars universe in 2015’s The Force Awakens, portraying Rey, a resourceful scavenger on the desert planet Jakku. Her character’s trajectory becomes entangled with the Jedi legacy, the Force, and the struggle between the Resistance and the First Order. She reprised her role in subsequent films of the sequel trilogy, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.Daisy Ridley’s performance as the protagonist in Star Wars turned her into a household name beyond Rey. Her most recent work was a role in The Marsh King’s Daughter, a psychological thriller directed by Neil Burger, based on the 2017 novel by Karen Dionne. The film, released in November 2023, was penned by Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith.

Meanwhile, The Mandalorian & Grogu is being given precedence over the Star Wars Rey movie and will begin production in 2024. Jon Favreau will direct and produce the project with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

While rumors suggested that The Mandalorian’s fourth season may be turned into a feature film, Favreau previously stated that the script for Season 4 was complete. There have also been reports about Dave Filoni, who became Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer following the success of Ahsoka, directing a Star Wars film featuring characters from The Mandalorian.

However, nothing has been officially confirmed. Release dates for The Mandalorian & Grogu, as well as the Star Wars Rey movie remain unknown.Source: Making Star Wars
