Darth Revan is a name that doesn’t mean much to those recently introduced to the Star Wars franchise. But for franchise veterans, the name means one of the most popular characters in Star Wars history, regardless of what side of the Force fandom resides in. And with so many television and theatrical Star Wars entries, his appearance was only a matter of time. Fans of the dark side of the Force rejoice since Darth Revan is set to make his Star Wars debut on a Disney+ series.

According to TheDirect.com, Darth Revan, a Jedi-turned-Sith, will make his debut appearance in the upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte series, which Leslie Headland is currently developing for Disney+. This information was revealed by Corey Van Dyke of Kessel Run Transmissionsin a HoloNet Maurader podcast and confirmed the existence of Darth Revan holo-form concept art. Van Dyke believes that the concept art in question is made specifically for The Acolyte and that the character might get his own series eventually.

The series will focus more on the emergence of the dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era, in Disney’s push to further expand a franchise and appease the fans of the Sith with an appropriate character. Darth Revan seemed like an obvious choice, given the character’s popularity among the fans and his central role in the massively successful Star Wars video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He’s one of the most popular characters in the franchise, ranking as the 12th greatest Star Wars character and 5th best Star Wars villain. But the good stuff doesn’t end there.

Darth Revan’s appearance was carefully insinuated before, most notably in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker tie-in book, which firstly introduced Revan into the canon story. Additionally, subtle hints of the character’s history were mentioned in The Mandalorian, so his appearance was indeed only a matter of time. Lucasfilm might use The Acolyte as a backdoor for the character’s entry into the live-action division of the franchise and grant Darth Revan his own spin-off. After all, it’s precisely what they did with Ahsoka Tano’s appearance in The Mandalorian.

Darth Revan is a former Jedi knight who lived through the Old Republic Era, thousands of years before the original trilogy took place. He turned to the Dark Side and became one of the most popular Sith Lords in the franchise, but later helped the Jedi in their quest to defeat the Emperor. His rich backstory and complexity offer limitless potential for live-action adaptations, given that Disney manages to bridge the timeline gaps between the Old Republic and High Republic eras within the Star Wars universe.

Still, even in a holo-form, the character’s debut appearance allows Lucasfilm to gauge the fan interest, reactions, and tweak Darth Revan’s appearance before taking a whole step in giving him his own series, which will undoubtedly be a hit, given the character’s popularity. However, we’ll have to wait for The Mandalorian to end before we set our eyes on Star Wars: The Acolyte and any Sith-centered television release, but at least Disney considered the fans’ desires. Let’s see where they take it from here.
