It takes more than a few strikes and an announcement from Disney saying it’s scaling back from Star Wars content to get rid of Lando Calrissian. In exciting news for fans of the double-crossing gambler, Donald Glover is bringing Lando back to the silver screen. According to Deadline, the film is no longer getting a Disney+ series; instead, it will get a full-on theatrical release.

Donald Glover’s return as Lando Calrissian will no longer be constrained by Disney+; it’s becoming a movie.

Donald Glover’s charismatic portrayal of Lando Calrissian is set to make a triumphant return to the galaxy far, far away. The revelation came to light through Stephen Glover, the talented brother of Donald Glover and a fellow executive producer of the hit show Atlanta. Earlier this year, they took over as the writers for the Star Wars Lando project, replacing Justin Simien.

Lando Calrissian’s character, as reimagined by Donald Glover, first graced the screen in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

While fans were eagerly anticipating a Disney+ series, Stephen Glover dropped a bombshell on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. He clarified that the Star Wars Lando project isn’t a show but is slated to be a feature film. Unfortunately, due to the current strikes, driving forward with pre-production plans is moving about as fast as molasses.

Donald Glover as Lando

Lando Calrissian’s character, as reimagined by Donald Glover, first graced the screen in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Despite the Star Wars story’s lukewarm performance at the box office, grossing $392.9 million globally, Glover’s portrayal of Lando received widespread acclaim. This charming and suave rendition of the iconic character left fans craving more of his adventures in the Star Wars universe.

The character of Lando Calrissian was originally brought to life by Billy Dee Williams in the 1980 classic Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Williams reprised the role in 1983’s Return of the Jedi and made a memorable cameo appearance in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In the Star Wars prequel, Glover’s younger version of Lando seamlessly bridges the gap between the original trilogy and the newer installments, earning him a special place in the hearts of fans.

History Of The Lando Series

The journey of the Star Wars Lando project has been marked by twists and turns since the day it was announced. It was first unveiled to the public during a Disney investor day in December 2020 as a Disney+ series. However, with recent announcements that Disney+ would be adjusting its content production strategy to allow for more space between releases, the project evolved once again.

While specific plot details remain shrouded in secrecy, the prospect of a standalone Lando Calrissian movie is undeniably tantalizing. With Donald Glover at the helm and the rich lore of the Star Wars universe as a backdrop, there is ample potential for an epic adventure that explores Lando’s character in greater depth and uncovers new facets of his enigmatic personality.

As fans eagerly await further updates and official announcements from Lucasfilm and Disney, Lando Calrissian’s return to the big screen might be exactly what the franchise needs. Surely, this Star Wars Lando project will turn out to be a journey filled with intrigue, daring escapades, and the trademark charm that only Donald Glover can bring to the iconic character.
