The DC Extended Universe is well on its way to realizing its multiversal dreams. And it’s beginning its ambitious plans with the appearance of two Batmans– Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton– from different realties in the upcoming film, The Flash. A new press release has confirmed Giant Freakin Robot’s previously shared exclusive scoop where we reported that Michael Keaton is set to appear in the upcoming HBO Max film, Batgirl

In the press release from Warner Bros, Michael Keaton is listed among the cast for its upcoming Batgirl film starring Leslie Grace. Apart from a brief synopsis that the film will be the first-ever live-action feature to star the DC superhero, Batgirl, the press release also shares a few selected names from its cast. With the actor all set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in The Flash, a character he last played in 1992 Batman Returns directed by Tim Burton, it is a no-brainer that he will be appearing as the caped superhero in the Batgirl film as well. Check out the post below showing a screenshot of the press release:

It remains to be seen how Michael Keaton’s Batman will fit into the story of Batgirl. Given the fact that J.K. Simmons is reprising his role as Commissioner James Gordon i.e., Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl’s father, it appears that the film will be set in the universe where Ben Affleck is Batman. Apparently, whatever multiversal chaos takes place in The Flash will have ripple effects throughout the DCEU and it will continue to exist even after the events in the film will conclude.

As per our exclusive report, Warner Bros. has roped in Michael Keaton for a multi-picture deal at DC. So, after the actor appears as Batman in The Flash and Batgirl for HBO Max, we are expecting that he will also reprise his role in a live-action adaptation of Nightwing as well as Batman Beyond for the DC Extended Universe. There is yet to be a formal announcement for the last two projects but as per our trusted source, Warner Bros. is quietly working on the films and Keaton is attached to both of the projects.

Apart from Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons, Batgirl is also set to star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon who will be moonlighting as the Gotham city vigilante known as Batgirl. Brendan Fraser will be seen as the villainous Garfield Lynns/Firefly, a sociopath with a twisted love for pyrotechnics, while Jacob Scipio has been cast in an undisclosed role. The film will be co-directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, based on a script by Christina Hodson, who has also penned the 2020 DCEU film Birds of Prey as well as the upcoming The Flash. Though Batgirl has finally begun filming, it has no official release date. It is expected to debut on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

Michael Keaton will also be continuing his multiversal journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is all set to reprise his role as Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture in Sony Pictures’ Marvel film, Morbius. He first played the role of the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming and apparently, he will be hopping universes somehow to land in the one where Jared Leto’s Morbius exists.
