This year marks the 30th anniversary of the beloved sitcom Martin and it’s getting its very own reunion special on BET+. The Martin reunion will bring back much of the original cast including Martin Lawrence, who played Martin, Tisha Campbell who played his wife Gina, Tichina Arnold who played Pam, and Carl Anthony Payne II who played Cole. The cast members kick things off in the trailer with a tribute to deceased cast member Tommy Ford, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 52. Check out the trailer below to see the cast all together again:
The Martin reunion will be hosted by comedian Affion Crockett and will take place in the original living room set from the series. The series ran for five seasons from 1992 to 1997 and depicted the life of radio and TV personality, Martin Payne. The special will feature interviews with the cast and directors, musical performances, and behind-the-scenes commentary. For fans of the show, this is a can’t-miss special. Guest stars who are set to appear in the reunion special include Snoop Dogg, Brian McKnight, Le’Andria Johnson, Reginald Ballard, Tracy Morgan, Tommy Davidson, Marla Gibbs, and Sean Lampkin.
The Martin reunion follows the recent trend of bringing back cast members from fan-favorite shows and movies to reunite years after their franchises ended. One notable example was Friends, which brought back all of the cast members and was hosted by James Corden. The reunion featured a similar format with cast member interviews and guest stars who would drop in. The Harry Potter reunion was another recent example, which saw stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson returning to talk about the impact of the movies they starred in. Unlike those specials, the Martin reunion includes the tease of a possible reboot at the end of the trailer. With the trailer ending on a cliffhanger like this, there’s a chance that the reunion could include the announcement that a Martin reboot is on the way, which would surely make fans excited to tune in. Martin Lawrence is currently gearing up to star in a TV show called Nehama. He’s also set to reprise his role in the action franchise Bad Boys 4 alongside Will Smith. With his busy schedule, who knows if a reboot is in the cards, but there’s always the possibility.
The Martin reunion is executive produced by Martin Lawrence, Stan Lathan, Stacey Lyles, Jesse Collins, Rae Proctor, Robert Lawrence, Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, Robi Reed, and Tiffany Williams. Lathan is also on as director of the special. Nile Evans co-writes the special with Bentley Kyle Evans, who is also on as a co-executive producer. Brittany Brazil is on board as a producer.
If you want to get a refresher on Martin before the reunion special airs, or if you want to experience it for the first time, you can stream all five seasons on BET+. BET+ is also where the Martin reunion special will premiere. You can tune in on June 16 to see the cast reunite after 30 years.
