Comic book movies can be many different things. It can be an intimate standalone or an epic ensemble. For Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe, she prefers to do the team-ups rather than flying solo.

In an interview, while Total Film and GamesRadar visited the set of The Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie let in on her feelings for her future on being the iconic clown. While open to doing more, she said it would be “more fun” going on a ride with others than being left on her own. When in a group, the character’s personality is fully embraced. It makes sense as acting off of others will get the most out of a character as spontaneous as Harley Quinn.

The entirety of Margot Robbie’s run as the supervillain has been in the form of team-ups. First with 2016’s Suicide Squad, followed by 2019’s Birds of Prey, and coming up for her third blockbuster as the DC character, The Suicide Squad.

Margot Robbie has done movies with some of the most highly acclaimed filmmakers, like Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. She continues to return to entertain superhero fans. She told Vogue about the different elements that keep her putting on the black and white makeup. First, it is the adrenaline of doing the action scenes that are full of her breaking bones with a baseball bat and exploding things. Secondly, she gets to be someone unique. But finally, it is about bringing women into blockbuster action movies, something that does not always happen, especially when those women have a titular role, like in Birds of Prey. Plus, these movies are “really, really fun.”

Nobody knows what is in store with the off-the-rails villain. We will see her in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but after that, we are not too sure. Regardless, Margot Robbie has ideas of her own. Speaking with Den of Geek, the actress revealed she mentions the Poison Ivy-Harley Quinn relationship to the executives at DC all the time. She even said that they must be “sick of hearing it” based on how often she brings it up. Her history of producing, like what she did with Birds of Prey, could help get her what she wants on the next project.

A romantic relationship between the clown and the plant controlling characters has been well established. From comic books to the Harley Quinn animated series, the two have been in love. Seeing that on the big screen would be huge as the genre has been slow-moving on LGBT representation with brief glimpses into it with Deadpool 2 and Loki. Marvel has plans for Thor: Love and Thunder and Eternals, but overall superhero blockbusters have kept a low profile for same-sex couples on the big or small screen.

If it is big ensembles that she wants, Margot Robbie must be in heaven with the huge roster of actors behind The Suicide Squad. James Gunn’s R-rated take on the supervillain team-up movie will include A-listers John Cena, Idris Elba, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvestor Stallone, Michael Rooker, and more. The Suicide Squad will release in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6.
