If you miss 80s-style gore and violence in movies, then you’ll enjoy the new Indian Kill movie coming out this summer. Due to the violent fight scenes as the hero works to save the woman he loves, the film is compared to John Wick or The Raid by those who had the opportunity to see it early.

One critic, Ed Travis, explains the comparison a bit more, as well as why there is such hype for the movie before its official theatrical release: “With a few kills that truly made my physical jaw drop open, and a few sequences that left our midnight crowd cheering and hollering, Kill very much lives up to the hype. Nothing will ever be The Raid ever again, but Kill earns its place in the conversation among the titles it pays homage to.”

American audiences have become more open than ever to bold filmmaking from all corners of the world.

The movie takes place inside of a moving train. This means that many fights are carefully choreographed to work in tight spaces. In spite of not much room to work in, the creative team comes up with all sorts of epic violent scenes to entertain the audience.

Though it hasn’t been officially released yet, there are several reviews on Rotten Tomatoes by critics. Based on these early reviews, the average critic score is right at 100 percent. However, audience members and critics don’t always agree on ratings, so it will be interesting to see what casual movie-goers have to say about this ultra-violent Kill movie, as it’s not a film for the faint of heart.

The film focuses on two star-crossed lovers, played by Maniktala and Lakshya. The couple have a secret relationship that is soon put to the test when Maniktala’s character is put on a train and sent away as part of an arranged marriage. Lakshya’s character isn’t willing to let their relationship end like that, and he and his friends get on a train to follow her, not realizing how much blood they’ll have to spill to continue their mission.

The official teaser trailer by Lionsgate does a great job showing how violent the Kill movie will be with some brutal fight scenes.

Kill hits theaters July 4.

Though the movie is primarily a gore-fest, it’s not one-dimensional by any means. The bloody fight scenes make up a majority of this Kill movie, but there are also themes throughout the film that focus on family, friends, love, and what it takes to push a person over the edge.

The Kill movie will have actors such as Lakshya (Porus), Tanya Maniktala (Flames), and Raghav Juyal (Dance Plus). The movie is written by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat (The Gone Game) and Ayesha Syed (The Gone Game), and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat.

The Kill movie was first released At the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 as one of the Midnight Madness selections. Lionsgate picked up the rights to the movie for North American and UK theatrical releases. It’s pretty rare for Indian productions to be picked up by Hollywood, so it’s a big deal.

However, it might be the first of many. According to Lauren Bixby, SVP of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Lionsgate, “American audiences have become more open than ever to bold filmmaking from all corners of the world. We were astounded by Kill and dazzled by the artistry of director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat. We’re confident that Kill will find an audience ready to delight in this film’s exuberant mayhem.”

“With a few kills that truly made my physical jaw drop open, and a few sequences that left our midnight crowd cheering and hollering, Kill very much lives up to the hype.”

The producers of the Kill movie also feel that Lionsgate picking up the rights could be the start of some amazing things. “It is a huge leap and moment for us to be joining hands with Lionsgate for our U.S. and UK theatrical releases. We’re thrilled to be partnering with the studio that’s behind the success of globally acclaimed cinematic masterpiece such as John Wick.

Kill hits theaters this July 4.
