Kevin Costner’s Horizon Gets An Epic Teaser, See Why He Left Yellowstone

By Britta DeVore | Updated

It’s finally here! Fans of Yellowstone have been grieving the loss of the Kevin Costner-led drama after discovering the star would be moving on to greener pastures via his own project, Horizon. Now, Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed a teaser for the upcoming Western film series, revealing what tore Costner away from his time as John Dutton on Taylor Sheridan’s series.

Viewers get a close-up look at Kevin Costner’s latest outlaw character in Horizon as he gallops off into the distance on a horse after firing off a round at some unseen foes.

With gorgeous cliffs and red rocks in the background, the teaser opens with an expansive view of the great American West before breaking the news that the two-film franchise will arrive next summer. Part one will ride into theaters in June 2024, with the second chapter coming soon after in August 2024.

While no plot details are given away, viewers do get a close-up look at Kevin Costner’s latest outlaw character in Horizon as he gallops off into the distance on a horse after firing off a round at some unseen foes.

While specific dates haven’t been set, audiences can expect to catch both parts of the film series on the big screen as Warner Bros. Pictures will be backing the titles. There’s also a good chance that Warner Bros. streaming service, Max, will also grab ahold of the Kevin Costner production in which he not only stars but also directs, co-writes, and produces.

Kevin Costner in Horizon: An American Saga

Judging by today’s short but sweet teaser, those looking to get the full effect of Horizon will want to see the film on the big screen to fully immerse themselves in the Wild West surroundings.

From what we know so far, Kevin Costner and his team are shaping Horizon to be a story that will follow the United States both before and after the Civil War and the expansion in the West that followed. Bringing together an all-star cast for his latest project, Costner isn’t the only big piece of star power joining the call sheet for Horizon.

Horizon’s Stacked Lineup

Included are names like Sam Worthington (the Avatar franchise), Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Luke Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums), Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Jena Malone (the Hunger Games franchise), and Michael Rooker (the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise).

Because Kevin Costner has such a successful background in projects like Horizon, it’s no shock why Warner Bros. jumped in on bringing the actor’s latest vision to life. Even before he became synonymous with Yellowstone, the star had long been fascinated with stories of the West as can be seen in his award-winning 1990 feature, Dances with Wolves, as well as other projects including Wyatt Earp and Hatfields & McCoys

Still, some fans of Kevin Costner may be a bit taken aback by the arrival of the teaser for Horizon as they’re still waiting on the second part of Yellowstone’s fifth and final season. With the finale of Season 5’s first part airing on the first day of this year, it’s been a long wait for audiences to see how things will shake out for the Dutton family. Sadly, that wait will, unfortunately, continue for an undetermined amount of time as the network hasn’t even revealed a release window.
