As Jennifer Lopez sang in her breakout single “If You Had My Love” back in 1999, “If I give you me, this is how it’s got to be / First of all, I won’t take you cheating on me.” Some people never recover from their partner committing an act of infidelity against them, while others swiftly go on the rebound and find someone else who is worthy of their trust. In the upcoming romantic comedy Marry Me, J.Lo does the latter and finds a perfect husband in Owen Wilson instead.

Marry Me centers on pop star Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez) who finds out on the news that her fiance and musical partner Bastian (Maluma) has cheated on her with her assistant not even minutes before they were about to get married in front of 20 million fans at Madison Square Garden. Among the crowd stands math teacher and single father Charlie Gilbert (Loki‘s Owen Wilson), whom Kat selects at random to stand by her at the public altar — only because it just so happens he’s carrying a sign that reads “Marry Me!” Spontaneity ensues the minute they walk off the stage as husband and wife to the shock of everyone at the wedding and those watching from social media, as they discover what destiny really means. Check out the shotgun wedding and its hilarious aftermath in the trailer below.

Throughout the trailer, Jennifer Lopez, who’s no stranger to rom-coms, goes through the motions of her new life with the man Jimmy Fallon dubbed as her Uber driver. He walks on the red carpet and attends a press conference with her, while she shows up in his classroom and attends the school dance with him. They experience one random moment after another and discover that their relationship is truly meant to be a la Notting Hill and The Proposal.

According to Deadline, the Jennifer Lopez-led rom-com went through various studio changes. Marry Me, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Bobby Crosby, was set up at Universal by Donna Langley and Peter Cramer, but distribution rights switched over to STX Entertainment in spring 2019. Later that summer, Universal regained the rights to distribute the movie to theaters.

If you think the wedding dress Jennifer Lopez wore in the trailer looks familiar, you may be experiencing some deja vu. InStyle photographed the Latin pop star and actress wearing the Zuhair Murad Couture bedazzled gown and bodice two years ago after putting a ring on New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced the star couple to cancel their wedding twice. They broke up last April, and she got back together with Ben Affleck for the first time since they separated in 2004.

To commemorate the release of the Marry Me trailer, Jennifer Lopez dropped her single “On My Way,” which she wrote exclusively for the film. She first performed it back in September during the 2021 Global Citizen Live Festival, a concert held in an effort to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Marry Me releases in theaters on February 11, 2022, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
