5. Pan

Hugh Jackman is practically unrecognizable in his role of Blackbeard in Pan, a 2015 fantasy film that puts a new twist on the classic Peter Pan tale. This movie tells the origin story of Peter Pan and Captain Hook well before J. M. Barrie’s well-known Peter and Wendy. If you didn’t get to see it when it was first released in theaters, then you can catch it on Netflix now.

When Peter Pan gets taken aboard a flying pirate ship, he meets Blackbeard, the ship’s captain, who uses fairy dust from Neverland to keep himself from aging. After being forced to walk the plank, Peter Pan winds up in Neverland and begins to form his Lost Boys crew and eventually meets his arch-nemesis, Captain Hook.

This movie is very entertaining, even if you only get a kick out of seeing Hugh Jackman play an antagonist with ridiculous facial hair. In addition, you can see Levi Miller play Peter Pan, Rooney Mara play Tiger Lily, and Garrett Hedlund as Captain Hook.

4. Prisoners

If you’re not in the mood for a children’s fantasy film, then we recommend watching Hugh Jackman’s 2013 R-rated film Prisoners that is currently available on Netflix. This gripping and disturbing film will pull you in for a two-and-a-half-hour suspenseful ride that will leave you with your jaw on the floor.

In Prisoners, Hugh Jackman plays Keller Dover, a father whose young daughter (and her friend) go missing in a rural Pennsylvania town. As time quickly slips away and the local police aren’t acting fast enough to find his daughter, he decides to take matters into his own hands. This leads him down a dark path that he may regret.

Hugh Jackman performs stellar with Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Terrence Howard, and Dylan Minnette. This film was nominated for many awards and won Best Cast and Top Ten Films from the National Board of Review.

3. Rise Of The Guardians

Rise of the Guardians

In 2012, Hugh Jackman joined an all-star cast to voice an animated character in the children’s movie Rise of the Guardians. The PG-13 film follows the Immortal Guardians (the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and Jack Frost among others) as they battle against the evil spirit Pitch Black who is trying to destroy the world by engulfing it in darkness. It’s a fun film for the whole family to watch if you have young kiddos who aren’t quite ready for the bloodshed and violence in films like The Avengers.

Believe it or not, the Wolverine star voices the character of Bunny, a role we never expected him to take on, and yet he does a great job. The rest of the cast includes Alec Baldwin, Isla Fisher, Chris Pine, and Jude Law. Rise of the Guardians was also the feature directorial debut for Peter Ramsey, who went on to co-direct the incredible Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

2. Les Miserables

The three-time Academy Award-winning film Les Misérables is available on Netflix, and it’s a must-watch if you haven’t seen it before. In one of his best roles yet, Hugh Jackman takes on the lead role of Jean Valjean, a recently released French prisoner in 19th century France. After breaking parole, he agrees to take care of a factory worker’s daughter despite being hunted by a policeman named Javert.

The 2012 film was adapted from a stage musical of the same name and from the classic novel by Victor Hugo. Les Misérables tells the story of love, hope, dreams, and the will to fight through adversity, all while the characters perform beautiful songs like Look Down and I Dreamed a Dream.

The incredible cast includes Anne Hathaway, Russel Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, and Sacha Baron Cohen, which helped make it an iconic film for the ages. It currently holds a 69 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 out of 10 rating on IMDb.

1. The Son

One of Hugh Jackman’s most recent films has also become a streaming hit on Netflix. The Son tells the story of a father that tries to save his struggling teenage son before it’s too late.

Hugh Jackman plays Peter, a man who attempts to juggle his new marriage and baby while also caring for his estranged ex-wife and their teenage son, Nicholas. When things go south with Nicholas, Peter is left to cope with the guilt and shame of his poor parenting. Hugh Jackman has been praised for his performance in this film, which was made even more real and heart-wrenching by the loss of his own father during filming.

Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby, and Anthony Hopkins also give great performances in this emotional movie. The Son was originally a play written and directed by Florenze Zeller, who went on to create the successful film adaptation in 2022.
