At 80 years old, Harrison Ford is still one of the biggest action stars in the world, having appeared in the blockbuster Star Wars franchise as Han Solo between 1977 to 2019, as well as the title character in the wildly successful Indiana Jones series, a role the actor will reprise in the upcoming fifth film that’s scheduled to arrive in theaters next year. Now, CosmicBookNews is reporting the Academy Award-nominated actor may be making his MCU debut in the recently announced Thunderbolts movie as General Thunderbolt Ross.

The rumor comes from insider Jeff Sneider, who was the first to announce that Blade lost its director, and we revealed filmmaker Bassam Tariq’s reasons for leaving the project in our exclusive report.

According to Sneider, multiple sources have suggested that Marvel has either approached Harrison Ford about portraying General Ross in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie or he is currently being considered by the studio to take over the role that William Hurt previously played in several MCU features before his tragic passing earlier this year.

Sneider mentioned that his source indicated Ford’s General Ross casting was a done deal prior to D23 Expo 2022. To keep the actor’s spotlight on Indiana Jones 5, however, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy prevented Ford’s MCU casting from being announced during the Thunderbolts panel at the recent event.

Although Harrison Ford is one of the biggest names in the film industry, the star has never played a superhero. In the comics, General Thunderbolt Ross spends his career pursuing the Hulk and eventually transforms into the Red Hulk to better combat his nemesis. We recently revealed in our exclusive report that Marvel plans to have the Red Hulk appear in the forthcoming motion picture Captain America: New World Order.

The Thunderbolts movie was officially announced at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July, and the line-up was confirmed earlier this month at the D23 Expo. Although Harrison Ford wasn’t mentioned as being a part of the upcoming project, fans were excited to learn that Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Alexie Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) would all be appearing in the film.

Jake Schreier is set to direct the forthcoming picture from a script by Kurt Busiek and Eric Pearson that centers on a group of supervillains who are recruited to go on missions for the government.

Even if Harrison Ford doesn’t end up having a role in Thunderbolts, the actor has plenty of projects in the pipeline. He’s set to star in the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off 1923 alongside Helen Mirren and Robert Patrick, which premieres this December on Paramount Plus. He’ll also make his purported final appearance as Indiana Jones in the upcoming fifth installment that’s scheduled to release in theaters next year.
