Star Wars Han Solo

One of the more recognizable film characters in the history of cinema is Han Solo. The character made an impression in George Lucas’ 1977 Star Wars, showing off a swagger and confidence unmatched by many others around him. Solo, played famously by Harrison Ford, has since appeared in numerous television shows, games, comics, and more. Fans of Stars Wars: A New Hope were introduced to Solo in the Mos Eisley Catina, keeping his iconic blaster close at hand. It appears that the same blaster has just sold for over $1 million through Rock Island Auction Company.

According to Collider, the “DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol” originally was to sell for an estimated $300,000 to $500,000, but the exact selling price for the iconic weapon was $1.057 million. The blaster is said to be the last surviving blaster from A New Hope, an old relic as near and dear to any fan of the original trilogy. It seemingly appeared in almost any marketing piece with Han Solo. It’s hard not to think of Solo without him showing off his blaster or pointing it at someone. The blaster was even part of the debate on whether Solo did indeed shoot Greedo first.

Ford would play the character in five films, including the original trilogy, The Force Awakens, and The Rise of Skywalker. The character met his tragic end in The Force Awakens at the hands of his son, Ben Solo. Although his appearance in The Rise of Skywalker was brief, it was enough for fans who wanted to see him return for one final outing. In addition to wielding the iconic blaster, Solo was known for his romance with Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia and his friendship with Chewbacca. In 2018, Disney and Lucasfilm released a spinoff titled Solo: A Story Wars Story, which centered on Solo and Chewbacca’s early adventures. The film wasn’t a total smash at the box office, with it only grossing $393 million worldwide.

Han Solo’s blaster selling for over $1 million isn’t all that surprising considering the franchise’s impact. A New Hope is often credited for inspiring many of today’s filmmakers and artists. The original trilogy’s success helped launch many books and comics that expanded Lucas’ vision. Since the purchase from Disney, a lot of the expanded material has become part of the legends banner. Still, much of the expanded material following the release of the original trilogy allowed fans to spend more time in the Star Wars universe. Regarding what’s canon, the TV shows and subsequent films after the original trilogy are now considered part of the actual Star Wars timeline.

It remains to be seen if Han Solo will appear in another Star Wars film. He did appear in the 2017 video game Star Wars: Battlefront 2 as a hero for the rebel alliance. There were rumors of him possibly making a surprise cameo in The Mandalorian, similar to how Luke Skywalker appeared at the end of season 2. However, nothing has been confirmed at this point. As of now, fans of the space smuggler can at least rejoice, knowing even his blaster still holds a lot of value.
