Following her feature-length debut in 2009’s Fast & Furious, Gal Gadot became a sought-after action star. In the immediate years following, not only would she return to the franchise for the fifth and sixth installments but she would also first lasso the role of Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. But it was with 2016’s Keeping Up with the Joneses that the actress would prove herself to be a comedic performer and, now, you can catch the title as it’s streaming on Amazon Prime Video’s free service, Freevee.

Keeping Up with the Joneses, starring Gal Gadot, is streaming for free on Amazon Prime Video’s Freevee.

Starring Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher, the film centers on the duo who play a couple living in the middle of suburbia. When two mysterious neighbors (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot) move in, they seem like a breath of fresh air with two new personalities coming into the community. However, the couple begins to realize not all is as it appears when it comes to the newbies who they begin to believe may be secret agents.

Directed by Greg Mottola, the feature is just the type of slapstick, silly comedy that we’ve come to expect from the Superbad and Adventureland helmer.

Along with Gal Gadot and the other talent already mentioned, Keeping Up with the Joneses also featured performances from Patton Oswalt (The Goldbergs), Matt Walsh (Veep), Kevin Dunn (The Mosquito Coast), Maribeth Monroe (The Good Place), Bobby Lee (Splitting Up Together), and Jona Xiao (Raya and the Last Dragon).

Despite having an impressive cast — including some incredible comedians — Keeping Up with the Joneses was considered to be a box office bomb. The film sadly didn’t hit the $30 million mark and sunk a whopping $40 million into its production budget, unable to cut even.

Critics seem to agree that the leading performances by Gal Gadot and the rest of her cast mates were the saving grace of the movie. Instead of the actors, they point to the film’s writing as its biggest weakness.

Off to a rocky start during opening weekend, the Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot-led spy comedy was expected to bring in somewhere between $7-9 million during its first few days in cinema but only managed $5.6 million over opening weekend.

Unfortunately, unlike other titles including Disney’s Elemental which, despite a poor start at the box office earlier this summer was able to turn things around, Keeping Up with the Joneses was a flop from the start.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an abysmal 19% rating. Critics seem to agree that the leading performances by Gal Gadot and the rest of her cast mates were the saving grace of the movie. Instead of the actors, they point to the film’s writing as its biggest weakness.

Although it didn’t go on to garner any major accolades from the Academy or the like, the film did manage to find a following in the younger generation. Both Zach Galifianakis and Gal Gadot were up for nominations at that year’s Teen Choice Awards for their work in Keeping Up with the Joneses with the film itself nominated for best comedy film.

Gal Gadot As Wonder Woman

After her box office blunder in Keeping Up with the Joneses, Gal Gadot dove back into the DC world at full speed for her character’s first standalone feature in 2017’s Wonder Woman. Leaning heavily on her action chops, the star would appear in a handful of other DC films, including Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984, briefly taking on comedy again in 2018’s animated flick, Ralph Breaks the Internet.

While Keeping Up with the Joneses may have not been the success that the cast and crew hoped it would be, it did spark up a friendship between Gal Gadot and her co-star, Zach Galifianakis.

Known for his comedic web series, Between Two Ferns, Galifianakis would later sign a deal with Netflix to turn the project into a full-blown movie. Gadot once more collaborated with her Keeping Up with the Joneses co-star in Between Two Ferns: The Movie, playing herself as one of the many celebs Galifianakis interviews.

The last year has seen Gal Gadot busy dipping her toes into other action-centered projects like Netflix’s recently released spy thriller, Heart of Stone. While fans of her portrayal of Wonder Woman were excited to hear that she had been chatting with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran to reprise her superhero role, rumors were recently shut down by the two men at the top.

For now, the best way to catch up with Gadot’s vast portfolio of credits is by signing on to Amazon Prime Video and streaming Keeping Up with the Joneses free of charge on Freevee.
