The immense and expansive Apple TV+ series, Foundation, will be picked up for season 3, according to The Verge. The critically acclaimed series, based on the Isaac Asimov book series of the same name, will continue to expand into new territory, but we haven’t presently been informed as to what direction the series will take, or when it will be released. Showrunner David S. Goyer, however, is thrilled to raise the stakes and continue to wow us with the series’ epic world-building, characterization, score, and cinematography.
What’s In Store For Season 3
Though not much is known about Foundation season 3, it’s safe to say that the upcoming season will hit the ground running with the lore that has been established during its first two seasons. Critics have criticized Foundation’s first season for its pacing, but we’ve since learned that the slow-burn exposition was necessary for its storytelling. When you consider the breadth and scope of the source material, it goes without question that characters had to be established, and the universe had to be meticulously constructed to tell a cohesive story.
Season 3 Focuses On The Mule
But season 1 crawled while doing all of the heavy lifting on the exposition front, so season 2 could run with a lighter step. In other words, fans and critics who had the patience to allow the stage to be set were wholly satisfied with season 2’s story arc. According to Goyer, Foundation season 3 will place a stronger emphasis on the Mule, a mutant, warlord, and conqueror who will threaten to manipulate Hari Seldon’s psychohistoric predictions of the future that are based on probability. Goyer also mentioned that fan-favorites, Bayta, Toran, Ebling and Magnifico Giganticus will take the center stage in Foundation season 3.
The Necessity To Take Creative Liberties
Though some critics have taken issue with Foundation’s deviation from its source material, it’s worth noting that some aspects of the Isaac Asimov book simply cannot be conveyed through visual means. Just like Dune, the density of the source material requires creative liberties to be taken in order to fully immerse its viewers in the storytelling that’s being set forth. But as Foundation takes on a life of its own, season 3 will undoubtedly be the most ambitious installment that we’ve seen to date, and thrust viewers into new territory that wasn’t covered in the novels.
More Sci-Fi Series On Apple TV+
Though we’ll have to wait and see where Foundation takes us throughout its season 3 run, it’s safe to say that we’ll bear witness to next-level world-building, special effects, and a Bear McCreary-composed soundtrack that will keep viewers at the edge of their seats as the musical backdrop ominously pulsates while everything plays out.
With Foundation season 3 just around the corner, it’s been made clear that epic science fictions have flourished on Apple TV+. In addition to Foundation, the streaming platform also has a number of other properties on its slate that viewers can’t get enough of, including Invasion, Silo, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and For All Mankind.
When To Expect Season 3
Foundation season 3 started filming in Prague in late May 2023, but like many other series and movies, saw a halt in production due to the Hollywood labor disputes that were resolved just last month. As more updates circulate, we’ll be sure to keep you up to speed with future series developments.
