It has been an incredibly tumultuous year for legendary actor F Murray Abraham. After landing a leading role on the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus and reinvigorating his career for a new generation of viewers, the Amadeus actor has been fired from the Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest, with the studio citing alleged misconduct allegations. According to a write-up in The Hollywood Reporter, Abraham has acknowledged these allegations, denying that his behavior was inappropriate, stating that he only intended to make jokes, unfortunately making some people uncomfortable.

This news may shock many fans, as the two iconic roles F Murray Abraham is currently best known for are those of old, out-of-touch men who fail to recognize that their seemingly harmless quips cause a great deal of harm and discomfort to those around them. Abraham’s Bert Di Grasso in the second season of The White Lotus fails to see how his own shortcomings as a husband and father have contributed to the generational trauma that his family suffers, utilizing flirtatious language to harass the staff of the White Lotus hotel in Taormina, Sicily. Similarly, Abraham’s portrayal of C.W. Longbottom in Mythic Quest includes a host of off-color remarks that cause other characters within the workplace a great deal of stress, though the comedy presents these comments in a much lighter tone.

Unfortunately, if these accusations are, in fact, true, it would seem that there are fewer barriers between the actor and his recent character outings than fans would like to believe. According to recent reports, F Murray Abraham was allegedly given a warning about his on-set behavior, which made several of his adult female co-stars uncomfortable. After Mythic Quest creator and star Rob McElhenney was made aware of the situation, Abraham was let go from the show following an internal investigation from Lionsgate Productions.

The departure of the character C.W. Longbottom shocked Mythic Quest fans, as the character took center stage during the Season 2 finale, which aired back in June 2021, though many assumed the casting change was a result of scheduling conflicts arising from F Murray Abraham’s obligations to The White Lotus. Even still, Mythic Quest was criticized for its decision to kill off the character in the Season 3 premiere, as many fans believed the show would be better suited to leave the door open for a possible return of the character.

Of course, these allegations only recently became open information to the public, allowing the fans to see for the first time why the studio may have made certain decisions regarding handling F. Murray Abraham’s character. If these allegations are true, then it seems quite similar to recent tales of veteran comedy actor Chevy Chase’s behavior on the set of Community, which also allegedly mirrored the worst impulses of his character.

F Murray Abraham has explained through a heartfelt apology that he has learned and grown from the experience, though he denies any wrongdoing took place on the set. While the female colleagues in the initial report remain unnamed, there is no way of knowing exactly what happened or who was affected at this time, but Abraham hopes that his apologies will be well received and accepted by fans and former coworkers alike.
