Black Adam is currently in the hands of the film’s editors. Filming is over. It took over a decade for Dwayne Johnson to get to this moment. It’s safe to say that the actor known for his work in franchises has had some time to consider what he wants to see happen in his DC sequel. Now, one of our trusted and proven inside sources has shared that Dwayne Johnson wants Jason Statham to be in Black Adam 2.

Our source shared that Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are good friends. They were unable to confirm for us what Jason Statham has said about a possible role in the DC Extended Universe but did share that Dwayne Johnson is trying to get him a role. From what we learned, it sounds as though The Rock believes his friend will want to take the role once it’s offered.

As far as how Dwayne Johnson appears to make career choices, this makes a lot of sense. We’ve seen him work with Kevin Hart multiple times. It’s become clear the two get along very well. At the same time, we’ve seen him publicly refuse to return to the main Fast & Furious films because he doesn’t want to work with Vin Diesel again. Since Jason Statham is his friend, it makes sense that he’ll be trying to sign him on for Black Adam 2. The big question is, what role will he play?

It seems most likely that Dwayne Johnson has his eye on a character from the Justice Society of America (JSA) in the comics. We know that Black Adam will introduce the Justice Society of America characters Doctor Fate, Cyclone, Hawkman, and Atom-Smasher. For the sequel, likely culprits from the comics could include The Spectre (also known as Jim Corrigan) or Hourman, but Sandman would be a particularly interesting choice for Jason Statham to take on. He usually wears a mask and isn’t shown often, he’s a gritter character from the JSA. Statham has trended toward rougher characters in the past, so his take on Sandman could be something fun to add to the DC Extended Universe.

The timing of this news makes a lot of sense. Producer Hiram Garcia has shared that internal conversations have been happening not only for the sequel but for spinoffs involving the characters introduced in Black Adam. While everything hinges on the success of this first movie, plans are in the works. It’ll be interesting to see whether Jason Statham signs on for a small part where he works with Dwayne Johnson, or whether he takes on something larger that earns his own spinoff projects.

Previously, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham starred together as main characters for the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw. In that project, the two got to face off, often fighting each other. We know that as Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson is promising that he will be changing the hierarchy in the DC Extended Universe. He has promised a lot of violence from his character. Whatever role he secures for Jason Statham, it seems a fair bet that the two will have clashing personalities, even if they’re working on the same side.
