Red Notice has cemented its place as the number one movie in the history of Netflix. Following an underwhelming limited run in theaters, the Dwayne Johnson film hit the streaming site a week later. This time it immediately shattered viewership records, becoming the most-watched film on Netflix with the biggest ever opening day.

Sharing a clip from the movie on social media, Dwayne Johnson celebrated the film’s success with his followers. “Here’s my slick talkin’ frenemy @vancityreynolds and I, giving you a taste of why Red Notice has officially become the biggest movie in the history of Netflix,” he wrote. “In under two weeks, we’ve shattered all records and we have many weeks to go. Thank you guys, and enjoy Red Notice this weekend around the world.”

Sandra Bullock’s post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box previously held the title as Netflix’s most-watched movie. But thanks to the Dwayne Johnson starrer, it has been downgraded to number two. Since its release in 2018, Bird Box had a death-grip on the rankings, making it the oldest film on the list which includes ExtractionThe Irishman, 6 Underground, Spenser Confidential, Enola Holmes, Army of the Dead, and The Old Guard.

Dwayne Johnson isn’t the only star celebrating the movie’s success in the digital realm. Earlier this month, Ryan Reynolds told fans on Twitter that the movie broke Netflix’s record for most views on the day of release. “WOW, #RedNotice is @Netflix biggest ever opening day for a film. Congrats to this whole team! He also gave a nod to his best pal Taylor Swift who re-released an album on the same day, saying, “Can’t wait for Red Notice (Taylor’s Version).”

Described as an action-comedy heist thriller, Red Notice stars Dwayne Johnson as an Interpol agent who teams up with renowned art thief (Ryan Reynolds) in order to catch an even more notorious criminal (Gal Gadot). The film hit the streaming giant on November 12th. In addition to Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson, Red Notice stars The Umbrella Academy’s Ritu Arya as well as Chris Diamantopolous. The movie is directed and written by Rawson Marshall Thurber. It is being produced by the returning Skyscraper team, including Beau Flynn for his Flynn Picture Co. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia also produce via Seven Bucks Productions.

The former WWE superstar also revealed that he’ll be honored with the People’s Champ Award at this year’s People’s Choice Awards. Set to take place in December, the action star will also be nominated in several film and television categories because of his movie Jungle Cruise and semi-biographical comedy series Young Rock.

Soon, fans can see Dwayne Johnson take up the mantle of Black Adam for the DC anti-hero’s big-screen origin story. It will be the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe and is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. Starring alongside Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam are Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan.

The film’s plot details are currently under wraps but according to a 2020 report by The IlluminerdiBlack Adam will tell the origin story of Teth-Adam, while bringing the Justice Society of America into the DC Extended Universe. It will also focus on Adrianna Tomaz who, after being slave-traded to Black Adam, becomes a superhero when an amulet belonging to the Goddess Isis becomes hers. Black Adam is scheduled for release on July 29, 2022.
