Doctor Strange 2 is like any Marvel project right now, as it has plenty of rumors circulating around it. One of the most interesting is coming from We Got This Covered, which is reporting that X-Men cameos can be expected. Moreover, those appearances will be from characters we’re familiar with from Fox’s universe.

No names were given for actors who will reprise their roles from the previous X-Men franchise in Doctor Strange 2. Fortunately, Marvel has a lot of leeway here for how to handle the introduction of X-Men characters, particularly if they do it in this movie. The Marvel Cinematic Universe plays with multiverses, with the official title for this movie being blunt on its premise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While unlikely, as Kevin Feige will probably want fresh faces for the roles, it would be interesting to see one last go for people like Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) and James McAvoy (Split).

Earlier this year, it was reported that Jennifer Lawrence would return for her role as Mystique in Doctor Strange 2. It falls in line with the current report about these cameos. If this were to be true, it does not mean that these current actors are the previously canon X-Men crew we will see from here on out. It is likely that it is a nod for the audience or a way to bring mutants into the universe then transitioning to new actors for iconic characters like Mystique, Wolverine, and Professor X.

Although he was not confirmed to be the X-Men version of Quicksilver, Evan Peters (American Horror Story) crossing over with his appearance in WandaVision lends to the possibilities of twisting the idea of having actors reprise their roles with fun twists. The use of alternate universes in Doctor Strange 2, Spider-Man 3: No Way Home, and Loki are paving the way for what’s to come in the next saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This rumor might not come to fruition. That does not mean we are going in blind for Doctor Strange 2. The Benedict Cumberbatch-led (The Imitation Game) film will see him team up with Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers: Endgame) as Wanda Maximoff. It will also feature returning stars Rachel McAdams (True Detective) as Dr. Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Mordo, and Benedict Wong (The Martian) as Wong. We will also see an appearance of one new superhero, or at least soon to be a superhero, America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez from The Baby-Sitters Club).

Not everything has gone smoothly for Doctor Strange 2. COVID-19 threw the whole industry into a spiral as it tried to adapt to new conditions and regulations for filming. The film was set to have Insidious director Scott Derrickson return to helm the film. Due to “creative differences” for Marvel’s first horror movie, he was replaced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead). The new director was joined by writers Michael Waldron (Loki) and Jade Halley Bartlett as her debut.

The plot for Doctor Strange 2 is unknown. From the post-credit scene from WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen’s inclusion will involve learning from the Sorcerer to harness her newfound powers from her Disney Plus show. At the post-credit scene of the first movie, it showed a turn for Mordo, so he will be one of the antagonists from what we can confirm. Doctor Strange 2 will hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
