Danny Devito Wants Arnold Schwarzenegger Return No One Expected

Sometimes, the best collaborations are spoken into existence, and we hope that Danny DeVito’s desire to work alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Batman movie is one that actually gets the green light. DeVito, who famously portrayed The Penguin in 1992’s Batman Returns, recently spoke to People, stating that he’d love to reprise his role alongside Schwarzenegger, who starred as Mr. Freeze in 1997’s Batman & Robin. Though it’s safe to say that no such film is currently in development, it would be wild to see the two Junior co-stars reunite in this capacity to terrorize Gotham City.

Wanted To Work Together For Years

Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger have been good friends for quite some time, and their friendship even predates 1988’s Twins, their first feature film collaboration. While the two stars once had plans to reunite for a follow-up to Twins, the project was ultimately shelved while Schwarzenegger was acting as Governor of California from 2003 to 2011. While presenting at the 2024 Academy Awards, DeVito hinted that he and the Terminator were planning on working together in some capacity sometime in the near future.

The Batman idea came about because Michael Keaton was sitting in the audience while Danny DeVito was presenting alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Always Sunny in Philadelphia star suggested that he was presented with his good friend because they both had one thing in common: they both tried to kill Batman at one point throughout their respective careers. Though DeVito was just performing a bit during the event to have some fun with Keaton, it would make for a memorable collaboration.

Penguin And Mr. Freeze

Danny DeVito’s portrayal of The Penguin in Batman Returns is one of his most memorable performances, and it’s clear that working under Tim Burton’s direction against Michael Keaton‘s Batman is something that fans would love to see again. The Penguin’s jovial yet antagonistic nature made for a lot of comic relief, and the same can be said about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin against George Clooney’s Batman and under Joel Schumacher’s direction.

Though DeVito and Schwarzenegger never worked together on a Batman movie, we can only imagine what kind of epic one-liners The Penguin and Mr. Freeze would be able to cobble together if they were both going after a common enemy.

Ice To See You

Jokingly, Danny DeVito told People that they should contact Pam Abdi, the co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros., to make this collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger happen. Hopefully, her phone will start ringing off the hook so this project can get financial backing. But presently, it sounds like DeVito is just having some fun.

It may be wishful thinking that we’ll see Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger running through the streets of Gotham City while covered in an unthinkable amount of prosthetics in their efforts to take down Batman once and for all, but it does sound like an exciting premise. After all, penguins thrive in cold environments, and Mr. Freeze knows a thing or two about the art of cryonics. Plus, the mental image of Mr. Freeze covering the streets in ice while The Penguin glides headfirst into the caped crusader sounds like the kind of action we’d want to see.
