If you are an actor or actress and haven’t either landed a part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or had some fan art made that imagines you in a role, then I don’t know what to tell you. Sometimes in this world of comic book movie castings, the speculation is half the fun with all kinds of different folks being drawn into different roles. It appears Daniel Radcliffe has been part of that as well. There have been rumors about the actor joining the MCU as a very specific character and he’s definitely heard about it from fans along the way. Has he scored the role yet? No, not at all. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t sending Marvel a message about the possible opportunity.

While at SXSW and speaking with Comicbook.com, Daniel Radcliffe responded to recent and somewhat ongoing rumors that he was in line to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor was quick to say that these were anything but true and also weighed in on the body type that might be needed to play the character. It’s a pretty funny response, all things considered, something of a window into how actors might imagine themselves in different roles and how they will even compare themselves to others in the field. Check out what Radcliffe had to say about the rumors, the possible casting, and his message to Marvel about the part.

“So many times, people come to me like, ‘hey man, heard the Wolverine news, that’s pretty cool.’ No, I don’t know anything about it. Like, I appreciate that somebody is clearly going like ‘Wolverine’s actually short in the comic books, you should get like a short guy to do it!’ But I don’t see myself, I don’t see them going from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.”

You have to love this response from Daniel Radcliffe on a few different levels. For starters, it’s funny that there would be a contingent of fans who have no problem approaching the actor about a casting that didn’t actually happen. It makes you wonder just how often this kind of thing happens. And second, Radcliffe admits that he envisions himself much too short to play Logan/ Wolverine, especially compared to Hugh Jackman who held the role down in epic fashion for about 17 years. Along these lines, Daniel Radcliffe is 5’5 and Jackman is 6’3. So there’s definitely a difference there.

But at the end, Daniel Radcliffe does seem to throw his hat in the ring when it comes to actually playing Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Is he be 100% serious about wanting consideration for the role? Almost definitely not. Having a little fun as part of the interview seems to be the reason for throwing in that he wants Marvel to prove him wrong.

Where did all of this Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine stuff come from? Well, it’s been kicking around for some time now with fans having even produced what he might look like as Logan. In some artistic rendering, you can kind of squint to see it when it comes to the former Harry Potter actor donning the adamantium claws and getting to work. Check it out:

And some recent rumors had flown around about Daniel Radcliffe may be making an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Wolverine, maybe as part of an alternate timeline in that movie’s Multiverse. I suppose that is still possible. Other actors have definitely withheld the truth about roles in the past. But I don’t think it’s going to be the case. In all, it looks like Radcliffe would be interested if the opportunity arose, but it doesn’t seem like he thinks it will happen.
