Creepy Cartoon Horror Game Getting Movie Adaptation, Five Nights At Freddy’s To Thank?

Hot on the heels of the financial domination achieved by Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s, a new kids-adjacent horror game is setting its sights on a big-screen takeover. Heading to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the news with his following, the titular character Bendy announced a jump to feature-length form.

As those backing the production of the Bendy film likely realize, the time is now for jumping on any sort of horror video game to movie adaptation.

The image displays the announcement in capitalized block letters across a theater screen, while Bendy’s face can be seen on reels of film sitting on a table. In the bottom left-hand corner, the character’s recognizable hand can be seen pointing at the screen’s message, which has black ink blood oozing from the top. Unfortunately, nothing more – including a cast or release date – is included in the post, but for fans of the Bendy game series, the reveal is thrilling enough.

Since 2017, gamers have been trying to survive the madness of Bendy on a slew of different platforms including Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Set in Joey Drew Studios, the first-player game offers up a spooky set of challenges including puzzles and collection games, all while destroying their enemies by way of varying weapons. Bendy is considered to be somewhat of a boss known as The Ink Demon, which players will inevitably come up against on their journey.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is expected to return for a sequel, proving that, despite the negative reviews, money always has the last word.

As we mentioned, it’s yet unclear what type of story will be followed in the Bendy film but, like the Five Nights at Freddy’s adaptation, we can expect it to stick to the lore of the game while throwing its own creative flair into the mix.

Also like Freddy’s, there’s a soul-snatching aspect to the original material, with the doomed employees of the cartoon studio turned into the live cartoons that the company is trying to churn out. This plot alone has all the makings of an extra-spooky big-screen production.

As those backing the production of the Bendy film likely realize, the time is now for jumping on any sort of horror video game to movie adaptation. Despite its double release in cinemas and to Peacock, Five Nights at Freddy’s was one of the biggest grossers of the year, raking in a whopping $294.8 million against its $20 million budget.

While many fans were less-than-thrilled with how the story transferred itself into a screenplay and film (with critics largely slamming the picture), it still raked in an incredible sum at the worldwide box office.

Now, Five Nights at Freddy’s is expected to return for a sequel, proving that, despite the negative reviews, money always has the last word. Watching this from afar, the folks behind Bendy are sure to be seeing dollar signs, realizing that there’s a booming market coming from games like this one.

While we eagerly await more information about when Bendy will transfer the terror into theaters, a slew of other video game-based titles are on the way, including Borderlands, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, The Super Mario Bros. Sequel, Return to Silent Hill, and more. And then, of course, there’s the highly-anticipated second season of HBO’s hit series The Last of Us, proving that video games can often lay out the best blueprint for a successful feature.
