Chris Hemsworth Lost The Original Thor Hammer

It appears that, at one point, Chris Hemsworth actually misplaced the original Thor hammer, leaving it accidentally after a shoot

When you are playing Thor, one would think that the single most important thing you would want to keep track of is the hammer. Other than Captain America’s shield, no other prop holds as much significance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (except maybe the Infinity Gauntlet) so keeping tabs on Mjollnir would seem to take precedence above all else for Chris Hemsworth. But apparently, that wasn’t the case and at one point Hemsworth, much like the Thor character himself, actually lost the hammer in real life. Thankfully, it wasn’t a permanent thing.

While speaking with GQ (via Screenrant) about a bunch of his roles, Chris Hemsworth gave an extended breakdown of what it’s been like playing Thor over the years in the MCU. It was an interesting look at the character’s evolution and arc through the actor’s eyes and gives some of what they thought about when portraying the struggles Thor has at different points. But during the interview, Chris Hemsworth also admitted that at one point he lost track of the actual hammer they used for Thor in the movies. Check out the interview with Chris Hemsworth and the piece about Thor’s hammer comes around the 4:00 mark:

So it would seem that Chris Hemsworth was using the hammer while filming some sort of documentary and then happened to just accidentally leave it at a friend’s house and never think about it again. It wasn’t until the friend called asking if he wanted it returned to him that Chris Hemsworth said, “Yeah, I think I should get that one back.” While probably never all that close to actually losing the hammer itself, it does go to show that it doesn’t take much sometimes to lose iconic movie props. They get moved around, used here and there, and then, all of a sudden, they are just gone. It happens.

As for Chris Hemsworth and the rest of his time as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, well the next big story in that timeline is just around the corner. It’s going to be in Thor: Love and Thunder which is set to hit theaters on July 8th. The story will take place after the events of End Game and see Thor seemingly trying to find himself and his place in the universe, among both humans and gods alike. Natalie Portman will make her return as Jane Foster though in this one she’s now the Mighty Thor character.

And that’s not all. Thor: Love and Thunder will have Chris Hemsworth meeting a few newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One will be Russell Crowe who is playing Zeus. The Norse God and Greek God will cross paths with Thor making at least one trip to Olympus. And it could be all to fight off the villain for the movie, Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. The movie looks like an absolute romp, a worth followup to Ragnarok which reset the path for this character. Thankfully the hammer will still be around as well, not having been lost completely.
