Chris Hemsworth Reveals His Furiosa Villain And It Sounds Perfect

Fans may be used to seeing Chris Hemsworth as a superhero star of the film, but his newest Furiosa character breaks that mold. Dementus has a certain flavor of charisma about him, yet he is not a man to be tested. He rules with an iron fist and has a thorough understanding of the “kill or be killed” environment in which he was raised. 

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set up as a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, and it features Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Imperator Furiosa (a character we first met in Fury Road nearly a decade ago). Charlize Theron played an older, more evolved Furiosa in the 2015 Fury Road. 

Furiosa will give fans of the franchise more of a backstory on Imperator Furiosa, and Chris Hemsworth plays a fairly large role in the evolution of her character. Though not much is known about the events that ensue during the new prequel, the newest trailer for the movie did show a young Furiosa in captivity at the hands of Dementus. 

Luckily, George Miller will return to direct the new prequel. Audiences can be sure that  Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will carry the same dark, dusty, disturbing vibe as the rest of the films in the franchise. Expected to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024, Chris Hemsworth’s performance as the demented Dementus is expected to be quite the spectacle. Speaking on his role in Furiosa, Hemsworth talked about how working on Dementus was truly an enjoyable time for him. 

He said it was “by far the best experience of (his) career.” He continued saying that he felt “proud” of his performance in the role and that working on the film gave him a new perspective on how important the “kind of work” you’re doing can be to your overall outlook on your day. The storyline of Furiosa is the odyssey of how Furiosa was snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers at a young age. It tells how she fell into the hands of Chris Hemsworth’s character, Dementus. 

Furiosa finds Dementus traveling to the Citadel to eventually come head to head with a substantial enemy in the nastiest of nasty guys, Immortan Joe. When Dementus and Immortan Joe begin warring for ultimate dominance, Furiosa has to find a way to survive a wide range of recklessness and hostility along the way. She must find her way home, after all.

Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy, Tom Burke, and George Miller make Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga something for fans of the franchise to be excited about. Though Mad Max won’t be making an appearance in this installment of the franchise, the audience will finally find out how Furiosa got her mechanical arm. Look for the new prequel in theaters next year.
