Carla Gugino

Carla Gugino has made quite the name for herself over the last decade. The actress has had roles in a number of prominent projects, but she very nearly nabbed one of the most illustrious comic book characters of all time, Catwoman.

Justice League director Zack Snyder, who worked with Gugino on Watchmen, has in the past had positive things to say about the idea of Carla Gugino playing Catwoman. However Carla was only 39 back when she played Silk Spectre in Watchmen. Now she’s 49-years-old and has probably aged out of the part. But back in the day, as evidenced by the above photo, she would have been perfect.

These days Carla Gugino seems to have transitioned out of movies and into working on television shows. Her last movie was the little seen 2018 film Elizabeth Harvest. Instead of feature films she’s turning in great performances on streaming series like Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor. Streaming, not movies, seems to be the future for just about every bankable Hollywood actor.

Instead of Carla Gugino we’re getting 31-year-old Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. She’ll play the character for the first time in the upcoming Matt Reeves directed movie The Batman. There she’ll be opposite Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, in a movie that promises to freshen up the whole Batman premise with a younger cast than we’ve seen before.

We haven’t actually seen much of Zoe Kravitz as the new Catwoman yet, images and video from The Batman have been pretty sparse. So it’s hard to compare how she’ll stack up against the feline vibes of Carla Gugino. Here’s all we’ve seen of Kravitz so far: one grainy, enhanced photo from the overly dark trailer for The Batman

Still, it would have been nice if Carla Gugino had gotten a shot at it. She’d have been the perfect Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Instead we got merely adequate Anne Hathaway. Gugino would have been better.

Next up for Carla Gugino is San Andreas 2. She was in the original San Andreas, opposite The Rock, in 2015. The movie did moderately well, though giving it a sequel is a surprise. She played The Rock’s ex-wife in that movie so it makes sense that they’d bring her back, though don’t be surprised if her appearance is little more than a cameo. It would be weird if she keeps ending up in these life or death earthquake situations, while it’s less weird that a rescue pilot (played by Dwayne Johnson) would get in trouble on his own.
