Bill Skarsgard Goes Full Jared Leto Joker In The Crow Reveal

By Brian Myers | Published

The first look photos of Bill Skarsgard as Eric Draven have been released, and fans are already taking to social media to discuss the similarities between the makeup he wears in the upcoming remake of The Crow and the appearance of Jared Leto as the Joker. Both actors donned heavy black makeup around the eyes, but it’s the way the mouth makeup has been applied that really makes you see what might be Draven’s homage to the Batman villain.

Similarities To Jared Leto’s Joker

As the Joker, Leto had red lines extending beyond the corners of his mouth that twisted up to give the appearance of a giant, sinister grin. Bill Skarsgard’s mouth makeup in The Crow is drawn similarly, but not identically to Leto’s, but with a darker application. Side by side, the two characters might pass as relatives, though their agendas greatly differ on screen.

Bill Skarsgard Takes On Eric Draven

The Crow is a remake of the classic 1994 cult film of the same name that starred the late Brandon Lee. In the role of Eric Draven, Bill Skarsgard will be sharing the last part that the ill-fated Lee portrayed. Lee was tragically killed on set when a prop gun that was pointed at him accidentally discharged a fragment that fatally entered his skull.

The Crow Dates Back To 1988

Long before Bill Skarsgard was born, The Crow film was based on a comic book series that debuted in 1988 and was later combined into a graphic novel. Both the comic and the film center around Eric Draven, a man who was brutally killed along with his girlfriend by a gang one evening. In the remake, Bill Skarsgard will be Draven rising from the dead to exact revenge on all of those responsible for murdering him and his lover.

Bill Skarsgard Is A Horror Icon

Bill Skarsgard quickly became a fan-favorite in the world of horror films after his memorable and terrifying portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 2017 adaptation of the Stephen King novel IT. As a follow up, the Swedish actor donned the creepy clown makeup once more for the 2019 sequel, IT Chapter Two. In addition to Bill Skarsgard’s The Crow, the actor will be appearing in yet another remake that horror lovers are eagerly anticipating, set for release ahead in 2024.

Skarsgard Takes On Count Orklok In Nosferatu

Skarsgard has been cast as the rat-like Count Orlok in the film Nosferatu. The film serves as the latest remake of the 1922 F.W. Murnau silent classic, that brought the vampire to life with the creativity of actor Max Schreck. The thought of being able to see Bill Skarsgard star in big-budget remakes of The Crow and Nosferatu so close together is enough to send waves of ecstasy down the spine of any film fan.
