Bill Murray is known for being a part of a number of light hearted and comedic films, such as Groundhog Day and the original Ghostbusters franchise. And now, the actor is teaming up with another well-known comedian for an upcoming film. Bill Murray and Aziz Ansari will be pairing together on a project that is based on the nonfiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by Atul Gawande. Both actors have individually worked on a number of successful projects in the past, so this new movie should be a must-watch when it is released.
Although there aren’t too many details about the actual storyline of the film or the exact characters the actors will play, we do know that the film is based on a real story. The book’s author, Atul Gawande, is a real life surgeon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a review from The Boston Globe stated that the book does an excellent job of taking a closer and in depth look at aging and death, and how those in the medical field handle life and death. It will be very interesting to see comedic actors like Bill Murray and Aziz Ansari take on a somewhat serious topic.
According to Variety, David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, the presidents of Searchlight, stated their feelings of Bill Murray and Aziz Ansari being on the project. The two initially brought up Ansari in their statement. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with him on his feature directorial debut, which is long overdue, and, of course, working with the genius Bill Murray once again.” Ansari is indeed making his directorial debut on the film, and is also involved in many other ways, too. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ansari is not only directing, but he is also writing the script, acting, and is also one of the producers.
While the film’s details have yet to be released, we do know that the movie has a projected release date in 2023, according to Deadline. Bill Murray is a brilliant addition to the project, since he has proven himself as an actor on multiple films throughout his career. Of course, most might recognize the actor for playing Dr. Peter Venkman as he battles ghosts and ghouls in Ghostbusters. However, Murray has taken on more serious roles such as starring in the film Lost in Translation. The movie follows Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson as they form a strong, emotional connection when they meet in Tokyo. The film’s cinematography and the talented actors were just some of the aspects that made the movie successful. Murray ended up receiving an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.
According to Deadline, David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield also discussed the script. “Aziz Ansari is an incredible talent and, with this script, he brings a singular combination of insightful humor and pathos.” It seems there will be a mix of humor and drama in the film that will leave the audience in deep thought about life, but hopefully not too seriously. More information about the film will definitely come out as the release date nears.
