Amber Heard Aquaman

After months and months of speculation about whether Amber Heard would even have a job in Aquaman 2, things were finally put to rest and she has been officially cast in the film. From there the question had then become what kind of role she would have in the much-anticipated sequel in the franchise. Some of that is now rounding into shape as well with a major rumor from Geekosity implying that Heard will have a significant role in this next film. If true, it would change the landscape of the franchise and maybe even the entire DC Extended Universe.

According to Geekosity, the plan for Aquaman 2 is to have Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry and Amber Heard as Queen Mera actually get married and have children together. Of course, this is only a rumor but the implications are huge if true. And there was also a piece of this speculation that had the possible marriage not happening until the third movie. This next one could be setting the stage for them to tie the knot in the future. It seems like this would be the logical path moving forward and we have definitely heard rumors that Amber Heard is going to have a bigger part this time around.

Some of that speculation came from her increased role in Zack Snyders Justice League cut. In the extended version, we got quite a bit more of Amber Heard as Queen Mera and she was even still alive by the time we got to the Knightmare sequence at the end. The implications were that DC wanted more of Heard on screen. And there have even been rumors that plans exist for a Queen Mera solo movie at some point. Aquaman 2, titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom should shed significant light on what the plans are for the character in the future, wedding or not.

Amber Heard

The will they/ won’t they piece around Amber Heard and her future within the DC Extended Universe stemmed almost entirely from the negative publicity she received during her divorce and subsequent court cases involving ex-husband Johnny Depp. Last summer, in a lawsuit filed by Depp against the British tabloid The Sun, a number of embarrassing details of their marriage came out in the public view. It led to Depp being dismissed from roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot as well as the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise. Fans of Depp wanted a similar outcome for Heard, but it didn’t happen.

From this Geekosity rumor, and basically, everything else we have gotten so far, it sure looks like Amber Heard is set for a major role increase in the short and long term for the DC Extended Universe. Whether that comes from an on-screen marriage in an upcoming Aquaman or some other way remains to be seen. I think it is safe to say that she is quickly becoming one of the headlining stars of the franchise though.

We will start to have some of those Amber Heard questions answered when Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits screens on December 6, 2022. It is currently filming as we speak.
