Throwback Thursday turned into throwback thirsty yesterday when Modern Family star Sofia Vergara showed up on Instagram wearing a small black bikini and nothing else. Vergara posted the picture, a relic from an old modeling shoot the star did years ago, with the caption “#tbt Republica Dominica.” The sexy Latina posed with a pair of horses for the pic, but honestly, most fans probably won’t even notice.
The steamy pic dates back to the ’90s but could have easily been taken yesterday. That’s because the 50-year-old Brazillian native looks so good for her age she could believably play someone 20 or 30 years younger. Of course, the usual Hollywood airbrushing and photoshopping help but only so much. The truth is Sofia Vergara was blessed with some insanely good genetics.
The actress’s flawless figure is even crazier when you take into account her decades-long battle with hypothyroidism. The America’s Got Talent host was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28 and, as a result, had to have her thyroid removed completely. Since then, Sofia Vergara has followed a healthy diet and engages in regular exercise, not solely to retain her shapely physique but, more importantly, to maintain her health and well-being. The smoking hot bod is just a bonus.
Sofia Vergara was discovered by accident. The Smurfs actress was strolling along a beach in Colombia when a photographer noticed her, and the rest is history. Modeling and television offers were tossed at Vergara left and right. Shockingly fans were almost deprived of Sofia’s radiant beauty completely. The actress was unsure of accepting her first television offer until the teachers at the Catholic School Vergara attended personally okayed her new career choice.
Sofia Vergara went on to host two Spanish-language shows for Univision before making the jump to Hollywood. The actress’s first big break was the 2002 Tim Allen movie Big Trouble. From there, Sofia starred in several more high-profile films, including Soul Plane from 2004 and 2013’s Danny Trejo exploitation throwback Machete Kills.
Despite Sofia’s many film roles (you can check them out yourself on the star’s IMDb), the thing she’s most known for is a decade-plus stint on the small screen. Vergara played trophy wife Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the smash hit Modern Family for 11 seasons and 250 episodes. Watching Sofia Vergara butt heads with her much older husband, Jay Pritchett played by the legendary Ed O’Neill, was often the highlight of the series.
Not one to put all her eggs in one basket, Sofia Vergara has engaged in several business ventures in addition to her acting. Vergara designed a clothing line for the department store Kmart in 2011. The star has also been the face of CoverGirl cosmetics, a brand ambassador for shampoo brand Head & Shoulders, and even launched her own fragrance in 2014 called “Sofia by Sofia Vergara.”
Luckily for her thirsty fans, though, Sofia Vergara still finds time to post jaw-dropping pictures on her Instagram. And when she doesn’t have the time to pose for anything new, she’s gracious enough to post hot throwbacks like the one above. Not that you can tell the difference.
