In the United States, the National Park system is a vast protection of various pieces of land from coast to coast and across the ocean to Hawaii and north to Alaska. With millions of visitors every year, the rangers and staff at the parks have their hands full and simply ask that guests don’t make their jobs any harder. Unfortunately, Mrs. Doubtfire actor Pierce Brosnan was one of those visitors who didn’t obey the laws of Yellowstone, landing him in hot water with law enforcement.

Pierce Brosnana Receives Citation For Trespassing In Yellowstone

The star was given a citation in the Wyoming section of Yellowstone after allegedly walking beyond the boundaries and into a protected thermal area. Known for its thermal springs and geysers like Old Faithful, the park is packed with these sections. While many are available for guests to see from a safe distance, it sounds like Pierce Brosnan wanted to get a closer look at these natural wonders. For his alleged trampling, a criminal docket that was filed in Wyoming on Tuesday revealed that he was written up for walking “in all thermal areas and w/in Yellowstone Canyon confined to trails” as well as “violating closures and use limits.” Both of these claims are just petty offenses, but Pierce Brosnan is expected to appear at the Yellowstone Justice Center in late January.

The Danger Zone

While, like many guests who have tip-toed off the beaten path, Pierce Brosnan likely thought he was doing no harm, there could’ve been a much more disastrous outcome than a citation. The areas of Yellowstone and other National Parks that are closed off to the public are roped off for good reason. Of course, the biggest one is for the safety of guests as, in this case specifically, the land around the geysers and other thermal areas can be deceiving, with the ground not being completely sound.

Human Activity Could Damage The Ecosystem

Beyond bodily harm, visitors who dare go beyond the safe area could potentially do tremendous damage to the nature that surrounds them. While it may not seem like a huge deal, with every shoe or boot imprint that crunches down on the land, the long-lasting effects could be disastrous.

Again, most visitors – likely Pierce Brosnan included – don’t fully understand this major rule of thumb, but hopefully, others will learn through the actor’s alleged misdoing.

Pierce Brosnan’s Recent Projects

While we have no idea why Pierce Brosnan was visiting Yellowstone National Park, the actor was likely taking some time away from his packed schedule to get out and explore all that the United States Park Service has to offer. This year alone saw him appear in three films – The Out-Laws, Fast Charlie, and The Last Rifleman. Likely enjoying the holiday slowdown, Brosnan wanted to see some of the Earth’s coolest natural features.

Pierce Brosnan’s Next Project: A Western With Samuel L. Jackson

Or, perhaps Pierce Brosnan was getting into the Wild West spirit with his visit to the famous park as he’s in the middle of filming Unholy Trinity, a Western flick in which he stars opposite Samuel L. Jackson. Filming was reported to be occurring in Montana which is one of the states that houses Yellowstone, so perhaps he took some downtime to explore all that the park has to offer.
