A man who calls himself the “Florida Joker” has publicly demanded a large payday from Rockstar Games for allegedly using his likeness in the newly released Grand Theft Auto VI trailer. The man’s real name is Lawrence Sullivan.

He first earned the name “Florida Joker” after having his mugshot go viral in 2017. His facial tattoos and his bright hair pay homage to the Batman villain, and the internet adorned him with the nickname “Florida Joker”.

After seeing what he asserts is his likeness in the new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, Sullivan took to social media to call out the game makers for their infringement. In a post the man uploaded on TikTok, the Florida Joker simply stated that the similarities between the character and himself are undeniable, ending his post saying, “GTA, we gotta talk.”

The Florida Joker’s first post has since been followed up with a second, more assertive post. The second social media post Sullivan uploaded certainly had a bit more hostility than the first, regarding the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer.

“GTA, we gotta talk.”

In that post, the Florida Joker now has purple hair (just like the Grand Theft Auto VI character he claims copied his likeness) and he’s wearing an orange prison jumpsuit as well. In a more aggravated tone, Sullivan again states that everyone knows where the new character came from.

He goes on to talk about how his story is blowing up on social media, and that he’s doing Rockstar Games a favor by drumming up some valuable marketing for their new game. The Florida Joker said that he wants an extra million dollars for the marketing of Grand Theft Auto VI as well as a million for his likeness.

The Florida Joker said that Rockstar Games is taking too long to respond regarding their Grand Theft Auto VI character. He gave the company three days to respond before his lawyers “go crazy” on the case.

The chances that Mr. Sullivan actually wins a legal battle against Rockstar Games for the use of his likeness are small, according to lawyer Rob Freund. Freund has worked on cases like this before, and Sullivan’s chances of getting any compensation are low.

Lindsay Lohan recently lost a similar case for the use of her likeness in a video game, and Freund stated that the Florida Joker’s claims aren’t substantiated enough to win against Rockstar Games. The tattoos on the Grand Theft Auto VI character are not the same as Sullivan’s facial tattoos.

Freund feels that the similarities are not significant enough to win in court. Sullivan’s rantings are likely to only go as far as social media, according to the lawyer. In the Florida Joker’s last TikTok post, he addressed the Lindsay Lohan case, asserting that he has “hard evidence” to prove his allegations against the Grand Theft Auto VI game maker.
