Disney+ has done a great job bringing back modern versions of beloved properties, with the latest being a spin-off of Tim Allen’s The Santa Claus. Allen and Elizbeth Mitchell had already been confirmed to be reprising their roles in The Santa Clauses and now we have confirmation of the return of another actor. As reported by Deadline, David Krumholtz will be back to play the grumpy Bernard the Elf.

David Krumholtz’s Bernard the Elf was the taskmaster of Santa’s workshop, so this is definitely an important role to fill. In The Santa Clauses, Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin is turning 65 and realizes that he can’t be Santa forever when he starts to lose his Santa magic. Plus, he’s ready for his family to be able to live a life in the normal world since his two kids had grown up at the North Pole. So, Scott sets out to find the perfect Santa replacement. The cast will be rounded out by Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra, Devin Bright as Noel, Austin Kane as Cal, Matilda Lawler as Betty, Rupali Redd as Grace, and Kal Penn as Simon Choski.

The addition of David Krumholtz to the cast will be a big win for The Santa Clauses, as he was a fan favorite from both the original movie and the sequel. The show has a strong crew behind the scenes as well, as Jack Burditt is on as executive producer and showrunner. Burditt is an Emmy winner known for his work on shows like 30 Rock, Frasier, and Modern Family. Tim Allen will also be on as an executive producer along with Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina, Jason Winer, and Jon Radler. As of now, The Santa Clauses doesn’t have a release date.

While it will be great to see David Krumholtz return to one of his best roles, he’s been anything but idle since his last appearance as Bernard the Elf. This year, he appeared in the Showtime series Super Pumped, which told the story of the early days of major transportation and ridesharing company Uber. He’ll also be appearing in the upcoming HBO drama The White House Plumbers. The miniseries will tell the story of how Watergate masterminds E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy accidentally ruined the presidency they were attempting to protect. The series will star Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, Lena Headey, Kiernan Shipka, Kathleen Turner, and more.

While David Krumholtz has been mostly sticking to television with shows like The Santa Clauses and The White House Plumbers, he’ll be appearing in one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The movie will tell the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and his work on the atomic bomb. Krumholtz will be in good company, as the cast is absolutely stacked with stars including Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Josh Hartnett, Gary Oldman, Matthew Modine, Jack Quaid, Rami Malek, and many more. Oppenheimer is expected to hit theaters in July of 2023.
