Jason Momoa’s Underappreciated Show Is Renewed
Jason Momoa is currently working on portraying the villain in Fast X, but his underappreciated show has officially been renewed for another season.
Apple TV+ has a whole host of high-brow drama on its roster, with a whole gaggle of Hollywood A-listers to go with it. This has seen amazing successes such as Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudekis and Severence starring the likes of Adam Scott and Patricia Arquette. One show that hasn’t quite reached the acclaim of those shows despite having a superstar at its center, is the Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman) series See, which AV Club reports has been renewed for a third and final season.
See first aired in 2019 and sees Jason Momoa star in a post-apocalyptic world in the far-flung future, where humankind shares the affliction of planet-wide blindness. However, when Momoa’s twin children are miraculously born with the ability of sight (hence the title See), he must protect his children in this harsh world. A teaser trailer for the upcoming third and final season can be seen below. It is said that Jason Momoa’s character Baba Voss will have to return to his native tribe of Paya to protect his kin from a band of enemies who have developed new and terrifying weaponry. The climatic events will premiere on the streaming service on August 26.
The first season of See wasn’t warmly received by critics, with the show featuring a paltry Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus score of just 44% with the likes of Jason Momoa and his co-stars being more than capable, but falling foul of a grim and grisly surrounding story. However, things for Momoa and co looked up when it came to season two of See, with a vast upswing in fortunes amidst the world of television critics. Rotten Tomatoes cited the overall critical consensus for See‘s sophomore season at a mighty 83%.
The second season of See saw its favorable performance with critics mirrored in its boost in audience ratings. Jason Momoa was joined in the cast by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the galaxy, Stuber) in the role of Momoa’s antagonistic brother and according to an iMore report, when See season 2 hit television screens on August 27, 2021, it became the most-watched Apple TV Plus returning drama show and saw a hefty 30% uptake in viewing numbers after a fortnight of being on-air in comparison to the first season of the show.
Beyond the final season of See airing on August 27 of this year, Jason Momoa has a big future of projects lined up for him on the big screen. There is of course his return to the world of DC Comics in the 2023 superhero sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. As well as this, Momoa also has another huge blockbuster film ahead of him with his new role in the Fast and Furious franchise, where the Hawaii-born actor is set to play the role of villain in Fast X. There is also a remake of Sylvester Stallone’s Cliffhanger on the cards for Momoa, further sealing his all-encompassing star appeal. However, before Jason Momoa remarks on his Hollywood movie charge, he will be hoping the final season of See is a rip-roaring late-summer success.
