In the world of gaming, it is not often that musicians make their way into the fold. Maybe if you count games like Guitar Hero, which brought in Slash from Guns N’ Roses. But even rarer than that is a video game bringing in a heavy metal band. That is no longer the case, as Smite has now brought in arguably the world’s biggest metal band, Slipknot! The nine members of the highly successful metal collective will be joining the game as playable characters. Well, that’s to say they will act as skins for already established characters, but they still look great. You can rock out to the trailer below:

All nine members of the band Slipknot will be added to existing characters in Smite. They have been designated to certain characters that already exist in-game, but the realistic skins for the band members look amazing. Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Craig Jones will be added as skins for Poseidon. Mick Thomson, Jim Root, and Alessandro Venturella will be added to Chaac. Michael Pfaff, Shawn “Clown” Crahan, and Jay Weinberg will be added to Raijin. As far as ambitious video game crossovers go, this must be one of the biggest. The trailer shows off how each member looks in the game, as their song “Duality” plays in the background. Hopefully, Smite allows some of the band’s music to make it into the game as well.

Smite may be one of the lesser looked at MOBAs, but it’s still highly successful, considering it does well on PC and console. The third-person perspective game is about to get a lot more metal. The game has brought in many crossovers that have included the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar: The Last Air Bender, Stranger Things, Transformers, and Rambo. The game has brought in characters that make sense in the grand scheme of things but adding the band Slipknot is going to be quite the experiment.

As of right now, the Slipknot skins and the update 9.5 is live right now. The best part about all this is that Smite is free-to-play, so fans can go check out this limited event and become their favorite Slipknot members on the battleground of the Gods. Hopefully, this crossover goes well for the game and music in general, and we can see even more musicians making their way into popular video games. The Slipknot skins can be purchased at the in-game stores or found in chests in case those of you don’t have the gems to unlock these metal moguls.

Smite is free-to-play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Amazon Luna. Fans can go check out the new playable Slipknot members and hopefully unlock more than just the skins. There are loading screens, player titles, and music themes to check out as well. Slipknot becoming the first full band to break their way into a video game is fantastic, and hopefully, that ushers in even more ambitious crossovers. We can honestly say, that all our hope is definitely not gone.
