There was a moment near the end of Extraction when it sure seemed Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake had met his maker, finally succumbing to the (many) injuries suffered in getting Ovi out of Dhaka for good. But then fans were treated to a shadowy image of Rake in the background in the final scene, setting the stage for a sequel to the wildly popular movie. And it looks like we are getting closer to finally seeing Extraction 2 on the streamer with filming wrapping up this week. Chris Hemsworth took to social media to celebrate this milestone in the production, thanking everyone in the process.

Posted on his Instagram feed, Chris Hemsworth is in front of the cast and crew of Extraction 2 describing what it was like to make this movie and some of the crazy stuff they got done to make the movie happen. It is, for sure, a heartfelt and sincere moment from the actor as he thanked folks for their contributions. And as the camera pans around, it’s always a remarkable reminder around just how many people are involved with making a film, especially one with the size of this one. Check out what Chris Hemsworth had to say at the end of filming Extraction 2

At the beginning of the clip, Chris Hemsworth mentions a scene in which they land a helicopter on a moving train, just one of what will likely be a whole host of stunts performed in this movie. If the first film was any indication, the adrenaline will be pumping for this one as Hemsworth’s Rake is sent on another mission to rescue, well, we don’t know who yet. Hemsworth had been posting various shots during the filming of Extraction 2, letting on that they had dealt with a number of colder and snowier weather conditions along the way. Filming had taken place in Prague, a far cry from the heat of Bangladesh in the first film.

In addition to bringing back Chris Hemsworth in the lead role, Extraction 2 will also have Sam Hargrave back in the director’s chair as well. He helmed the first film bringing over his expertise as a stunt coordinator for movies like Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, Suicide Squad, and many more. This background and expertise is definitely felt in Extraction which keeps its foot on the gas nearly the entire time. And Joe Russo (of Marvel fame) will be back handling the script once again.

Chris Hemsworth and company had a total hit on their hands with the first Extraction when it first hit Netflix back in the spring of 2020. At the time, aided in some part by the streaming uptick during the pandemic, the movie became the top-performing film for the streamer, hitting more than 90 million users in its first 28 days on the platform. Netflix has not announced a release date yet for Extraction 2 but with filming now wrapped one would think that it hits the platform at some point this year. Next up for Chris Hemsworth will be Thor: Love and Thunder which will hit theaters on July 8th.
