Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 4 Blu-Ray Trailer Makes It So

I’m betting some of our GFR readers are currently sitting in movie theaters watching/getting ready to watch the “Best of Both Worlds” Star Trek: The Next Generation theatrical event that’s going down tonight. Hopefully it’ll be a great experience to see two of the show’s best episodes up on the big screen, but for those of us stuck here at home, we can at least check out the new trailer for the remastered TNG fourth season Blu-ray release up above. The set is “coming soon,” but doesn’t have a specific release date yet.

Unlike some of the earlier seasons, TNG’s fourth season had the writing staff really on their game. Kicking off with “The Best of Both Worlds, Part 2,” the culmination of one of the best cliffhanger endings in sci-fi TV history, there are tons of classic episodes in this batch, including a few of my personal favorites: the twisty “Clues,” the downright creepy “Night Terrors,” and the Klingon-heavy season finale, “Redemption.” As with the earlier sets, these fourth-season episodes have all been remastered and restored — hopefully this set will avoid the problems that plagued some of the earlier releases.

Here’s the breakdown of bonus features, courtesy of StarTrek.com:

Among the extras on the six-disc set: audio commentaries by Rob Bowman, Brannon Braga, Mike and Denise Okuda and Ronald D. Moore, a gag reel and episodic promos. Brand-new elements will also include “Relavitity: The Family Saga of Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “In Conversation: The Art Department.” The former is a multi-part documentary that examines both the show’s explosion into a pop culture phenomenon after its third season and the Enterprise crew’s interpersonal bonds and family relationships, as depicted in “Brothers” and “Reunion.” The latter offers a look at some of TNG’s most-iconic designs, complemented by fresh interviews with production team members Herman Zimmerman, Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach, the Okudas, Dan Curry and more.

We’ll let you know when there’s an official release date for season four, but you can pick up the third-season Blu-rays next week.
