R.I.P. Robin Williams: A Look Back At The Actor’s Sci-Fi Contributions
The world is a sadder and less energetic place today, as actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead in his Northern California home on Monday afternoon. He was 63 years old. Details surrounding Williams’ death right now are scarce, but the Marin County Sheriff’s Office released a statement that said they suspect he died from suicide by asphyxiation. It’s been noted that he’d been recently suffering from gripping bouts with depression.
The Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting star made a career out of playing manic characters on both the big and small screens, not to mention comedy stages all over the world. From the hilarity of The Birdcage to the depth of Dead Poets Society to the discomfort of One Hour Photo, Williams was a performer like no other, and had one of the cleverest minds in the business.
And though Williams wasn’t necessarily known for his science fiction roles, there’s no more appropriate time than now to celebrate the actor’s most notable genre efforts. But first, we at GFR would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Williams’ family and friends in their time of grief. From the bottom of our hearts, farewell and nanu nanu, Mr. Williams.
